2006 Hyundai Elantra Review
ProsLow price, build quality, economy ConsBoring

Good But Uninspiring — My family bought a 2006 Elantra sedan and I have had the experience of driving several thousands of kilometers in it. It strikes me as an excellent vehicle for people who don't care about cars. Let me explain. The build quality, in terms of interior materials and panel fitting, is quite good. There is a weight to the instruments that is missing from American-made competitors. The interior does feels a little cheap or dowdy compared to a Toyota Corolla's, but I think the Elantra surpasses the Corolla in terms of outward visibility, acceleration and handling. That is not to say that this vehicle is rewarding to drive, because it isn't. Performance is merely adequate. It's a good thing this car came with an MP3 player, because the driving experience sure isn't going to keep me entertained. Like the rest of the car, the styling is decent. It's not a stunner, but then stunners are rare in this segment. Cost of ownership? This is where the Hyundai wins. Gas mileage is fine, the car was cheap, and from what I'm told parts and labour are cheap. It's like shopping at Winners- it's an affordable car, and what you get is just as good as the name brands. So this is a great car for going from point A or B with no events or drama. If a car is a practical necessity for you, a tool, an Elantra won't disappoint. For other people the drive is an event in itself- and for these people I recommend something else.

ProsAppearance, Cost, Build Quality ConsNone for Now, Maybe not enough power with stock engine but it's not a race car! ;P

Hyundai Elantra — Performance --> It's not a race car but it's 140hp still gives you a nice ride! I just recently installed a custom cold air intake with a K&N Air Filter... Build Quality --> As of now I changed nothing on this car! Everything is holding on strong! Appearance --> I changed the headlight to HID 8000K, I've got footwell neon working with the beat! Complete sound system with Pioneer Headunit and JBl Amps and Sub! Cost --> Depending on how you drive it this car can really be good on gas mileage! For the price of maintenance I can't really tell bcz i didn't have to change nothing. All I do is oil change to Castrol Syntec every 8000km! Well I would recommend a car to anyone who wants, a good car for not too much money that can last a real long time. Good on gas and Really good on maintenance! I drive it everyday and i love it! If you look around a little bit you'll find that this car is way more customizable than you think!

Was A Great Car Overall — Overall, I loved my 2006 Elantra, and would still be driving out had it not been totaled in an accident recently. I bought it new, and with exception of a couple of annoying quirks, it treated me well. It was good on gas, even with all the junk that had accumulated in the trunk. It was reliable, and held up very well when I unavoidably rear-ended another vehicle on the highway at approximately 35-45 mph. The car was a total loss - airbag deployed, front smashed in, hood crumpled, windshield cracked, but the interior was fully intact, so definitely a safe car. The only problems I had (the quirks) were 1.) Small door-mounted speaker cover somehow broke, 2.) Driver side windshield wiper loosened while driving in a snowstorm (this happened twice, both times the snow being heavy & wet), and 3.) brake light switch failed causing brake lights to stay on constantly, even when car was not running. (Fortunately this happened when the bumper-to-bumper warranty was still in effect). Overall, I would highly recommend buying this car as a second around-town car, as a commuter car for a college student, or as a first car for a young driver. Primary Use: Commuting to work

There Is Verry Little To This Car, It Has The Essentials. — it is SMALL!!! there is barely any acceleration it doesn't hold well in the corners, the car has not needed a repair as of yet, however, it currently has only 22,000 Miles on it, it looks like an old SAAB and its not that fun to drive... its more work to drive than it is worth. the clutch is too soft and FREEZES up in the winter... Pretty Damn Good Car. — Like it a lot, quick, comfortable, good on gas, and a four door hatchback is awesome so I can lay all the seats down and have a queen size bed in my car! Very reliable, never gives me any problems that can't be blamed on the driver :D. Also has a decent, stock component speaker system. The only complaint is that the clutch might be going, but then again I do drive it pretty hard. Primary Use: Commuting to work |
