A Good Cheap Alrounder! — Great car! Load of extras, bought from Ford Motors with 1500 miles now upto 70k miles, no problems. voice activated controls are impressive, xenons, adaptive cruise control, cheap to run 50mpg, handles like a dream, lots of car for very little money!

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Cons

Mondeo 1.8 Zetec — Engine.....Don't go for the 1.8 petrol, it is very sluggish due to it being a heavy car, Fuel consumption is poor. Body......Had nothing but trouble with the bonet catch, took Fords 10 months to sort. Insurance......Not the cheapest on the insurance, I have 10 years no claims and it's still around £500.00

If You Want More Car For Your Money Then You Want Too Much! — This car is so popular and so good it's been voted European Car of the Year since the Romans ruled the continent. Forget the new shape how ever lovely it might look and nice it is to drive, if you want a great car for the price of a bag of chips you can't go wrong buying a Ford Mondeo. The best option is arguably the 2.2 TDCi found in the ST. Developing a hearty 155bhp it'll hit 60 in around 8 seconds and go on to a top speed of a very respectable 140mph. If you drive it nicely though it'll reward you with around 50mpg. You can pick one up 6 months old for £12k. Whatever engine you go for you're getting a good motor but be wary of trim levels as the car really is quite spartan when you go in at the basic level. Avoid LX trim and for a few extra bucks or quid a Ghia or Titanium will mean much more driver comforts and much better residuals. And thats the real nail in the coffin of the Ford Mondeo. Depreciation!!! Even though it drives great and will probably take the whole family and their luggage around the world and back without even breaking a sweat, these cars lose a lot of money. It doesn't matter if you're the first owner, the 2nd, 3rd, the 1000th... This car's price will drop like a stone... thats tied to a brick.

Solid, No Fuss, Workhorse — Replaced a '01 Merc C220 CDI with a 2006, 1.8 Mondeo and I think it was a great move. The mondeo is basic, rugged and is bigger than the C220 and is much more reliable and cheap to maintain. Parts are cheap and repairs straightforward. It's not as nice a car to sit in compared to a M-B or BMW but unlike the C220 it generally runs well and doesn't cost a weeks wages 3 or 4 times a year on small repairs... my only gripe is that the basic spec. model feels cheap inside (dash/seats etc.) and that it is a bit fuel hungry... Overall it's a good solid car and a good choice for anyone who wants a bit of space and doesn't want to spend the earth.

Pros

speed

Cons

traction control - dangerous in snow, ice, wet

Mondeo 2.2 Ltr Diesel — 2.2 diesel. Very quick but uncontrollable in wet, snow, greasy road if traction control not switched on. Could be very dangerous! I liked Golf GT better, just as quick but not as frightening / uncontrollable. I also had a 2.0 litre Mondeo, that was also a nice car but not as exciting as the 2.2 ltr model

Pros

Reliable, Economic and good value for money

Cons

Too Common, Sales Rep image, 2.2 should be tuned up.

2.2 Tdci Zetec — Performance – 2.2 Tdci more Torque then a ferrari 550 pulls well speed approches quickly but acceleration is lac lustre Build Quality – for the blue oval it is quality. Appearance – interior is spacious and well equiped intuitive cabin layout. Outward apparance is purposefull Cost of Ownership – cheap diesel, parts can be pricey Fun Factor – Can be fun if driven hard but eats tyres for breakfast under hard corners.
