Buyers who select the dual-rear-wheel setup are also advised to opt for one of the two more powerful engines. Choosing the 6.6 liter Duramax turbodiesel V8, which provides 360 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. An 8.1 liter V8 is also available, offering 330 horses and 450 pound-feet of torque. Both of the optional power plants can be hooked up to either a six-speed manual or a heavy-duty Allison six-speed automatic. Properly equipped, a dual-wheel 3500 will haul an impressive 12,000-pounds.
Unlike the Silverado 1500 and 2500, the 3500 crew cabs are all fitted with the longest bed option, measuring 97.6 inches. The 3500 is a one-ton truck, able to carry payloads of 4213 pounds with two rear wheels or 5511 pounds with dual rear wheels. The 3500 offers some additional hauling flexibility, verses the lighter-duty 1500 crew cabs, which are only available with the 67.9-inch bed.
LS models add some additional features beyond what is found in the sparsely equipped Work Truck. Upgrades include chrome-finish wheels, grille and bumpers, cruise control and a CD player. The LS trim also replaces the Work Truck's vinyl upholstery with cloth.
This overview covers the LS 4dr Crew Cab LB DRW trim only.
