1.8T Cabriolet

Avg. Price: $12,108

The base model convertible in the mid-size lineup, the 2006 Audi A4 1.8T Cabriolet is front-wheel drive and comes with a choice of a 6-speed manual or CVT seamless transmission. These are matched to a 1.8-liter, 170-hp turbocharged I4 engine. The convertible top is power-operated and features a glass window. Safety is a primary concern, and the 2006 A4 1.8T Cabriolet comes with rollover protection, ABS brakes, traction and stability control, dual front-side and curtain airbags, 16-inch all-season tires, front and rear foglights, headlight cleaners, crash sensors, and a first aid kit. A tire monitor and rain-sensing wipers are optional.

The 1.8T is much like the 2.0T sedan in terms of features. Power front seats with power lumbar support are standard. So is cruise control (with controls on the steering wheel), leather trim, dual-zone climate control, heated mirrors and washer jets, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. Add-ons give you front and rear heated seats, parking sensors, a wind block, leather seats, navigation system, garage opener, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. Gas mileage rates around 23/30 mpg. Smooth handling, good gas mileage, and nice interior layout are some highlights for owners of the 2006 A4 1.8T Cabriolet. Complaints mention the need for stronger brakes.

Audi's most popular car, the mid-size A4, went through a restyling last year. The 2006 Audi A4 2.0T Sedan is front-wheel drive and features a 2.0-liter, 200-hp, turbo I4 engine matched to either a 6-speed manual transmission or CVT. Audi always focuses on safe and solid, and the 2006 A4 2.0T Sedan comes standard with traction and stability control, 4-wheel ABS brakes, dual front-side and side curtain airbags, a first aid kit, and crash sensors. Rear side airbags, a tire monitor, and headlight washers are options.

The base model 2.0T is no slouch in convenience, with full power features, including a 12-way power driver's seat standard. Other equipment includes keyless entry, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, 6-CD player, a leather-wrapped wheel and shifter, heated washer jets, heated mirrors, and a temperature display. Standalone options include a satellite radio, navigation system, parking sensors, heated seats, and sunshades. Packages give you a garage opener, rain-sensing wipers, power front seats, auto-dimming mirrors, 17-inch tires, and leather seats. The new S-Line Sport Package adds 18-inch tires, a stiffer suspension, S-Line badging, a spoiler, side extensions, and aluminum interior trim. Comfort, style and handling rank high with 2006 A4 2.0T Sedan owners, but they do report sluggish acceleration.

2.0T Quattro

Avg. Price: $11,282

The 2006 Audi A4 2.0T quattro is a popular mid-size sedan with expert all-wheel drive technology for rough or dicey weather and road conditions. A 2.0-liter, 200-hp turbo I4 powers the sedan, with choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed Tiptronic. The 2006 A4 2.0T quattro sits on 16-inch all-season tires and comes with traction and stability control, fog lights, ABS brakes, dual front and side airbags, a limited slip differential, a first aid kit, and crash sensors. Options add a tire monitor, adaptive xenon headlights, and rear side airbags.

Though the backseat legroom is a little tight, seats fold 60/40 for more trunk space. Standard equipment lists cruise control (with controls ont the wheel), a 12-way power driver's seat, power lumbar for both front seats, leather trim, a 6-CD changer, keyless entry, and a security system. There is a long list of options, including heated seats, power front seats, larger tires, rain-sensing wipers, a sunroof, a garage opener, trip computer, satellite radio, navigation system, memory settings, Bluetooth, a ski bag, real wood accents, and parking sensors. An S-Line package adds a sport suspension, badging, unique fascias, and a spoiler. Drivers of the 2006 A4 2.0T quattro love the style, smooth, ride, quattro, and comfort, but dislike the slow acceleration and engine noises.

3.0 Quattro Cabriolet

Avg. Price: $13,437

Just because Audi is safe and elegant and durable doesn't mean it can't be fun too. The 2006 Audi A4 3.0 quattro Cabriolet offers a removable power soft top to let you enjoy summer days behind the wheel of a convertible. The 2006 A4 3.0 quattro Cabriolet has a 3.0-liter, 220-hp V6 engine matched to a 6-speed auto/manual Tiptronic transmission. ABS brakes, traction and stability control, all-wheel drive, a limited slip differential, front and rear foglights, a first aid kit, front-side and curtain airbags, and crash sensors are all standard. A tire monitor, rear side airbags, and adaptive xenon headlights are extra.

The 2006 A4 3.0 quattro Cabriolet also comes with more standard features than either the 2.0T or 3.2 sedan, including a trip computer, a ski bag, and headlight cleaners. Otherwise, it is much like the 3.2 sedan, with power leather seats (and power lumbar support), keyless entry, cruise control, heated mirrors, leather and wood trim, and a CD changer. Rear seats don't fold, but feature a trunk pass-through/armrest. Extras add on 18-inch tires, heated seats, a garage opener, satellite radio, parking sensors, folding mirrors, a wind block, sport seats, Bluetooth, and memory settings. Gas mileage is around 18/25 mpg. A4 Cabriolet owners like the handling and engine in the open-top sedan, but hate the cupholder location.

Avg. Price: $10,587

New this year is the 2006 Audi A4 3.2 sedan, a front-wheel drive mid-size with a 3.1-liter, 255-hp V6 engine and 6-speed CVT seamless shift transmission. The 2006 A4 3.2 packs a little more power and pickup than the 2.0T and also a lot more standard features. It sits on larger 17-inch all-season tires and comes with ABS brakes, traction and stability control, front-side and side curtain airbags, a first aid kit, front and rear fog lights, and crash sensors. Rear airbags and a tire monitor are extra.

Power windows, locks, and mirrors, heated mirrors, heated washer jets, keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, and a CD changers are other standard features. The S-Line package adds 18-inch wheels, a sports suspension, rear spoiler, and special badging. Avg. Price: $12,857

The 2006 Audi 3.2 quattro sedan is a new addition to the mid-size lineup this year. It is powered by a 3.1-liter, 255-hp V6 engine and either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed Tiptronic auto/manual transmission. The CVT is not available with quattro yet. ABS brakes, 17-inch all-season tires, traction and stability control, front and rear foglights, dual front-side and curtain airbags, a first aid kit, and crash sensors are all standard on the 2006 A4 3.2 quattro. Of course, all-wheel drive and a limited slip differential improve road handling in tricky situations.

The 3.2 quattro adds 12-way power front seats, leather upholstery, and real wood interior trim to what you get on the 2.0T quattro. Other standard features include cruise controls on the steering wheel, a 6-CD changer, power lumbar support, a security system, keyless entry, heated mirrors and washer jets, and a split-fold 60/40 rear seat to expand storage flexibility. Option packages give you a sunroof, heated seats, memory settings, larger tires, adaptive xenon headlights, headlight cleaners, satellite radio, upgraded leather, a ski bag, a navigation system, and parking sensors. The S-Line Sport Package adds a firmer sport suspension, side extensions, a rear spoiler, badging, and aluminum interior trim. 2006 A4 3.2 quattro owners praise the handling, extra power, quattro performance, and overall luxury. A cramped backseat and lack of CVT transmission option are some complaints.
