Toyota's ninth generation Corolla gets a mid-cycle styling update for 2005, bringing the first significant changes since the full redesign in 2003. Front styling and taillight design are both new. Safety items like side-curtain airbags and Vehicle Stability control are added to the options roster.
Corolla's standard engine is a 1.8 liter DOHC inline four cylinder, which produces 130 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. The highly efficient VVT-i engine offers 30/38 mpg mileage with the four-speed automatic, and 32/41 mpg with the five-speed manual transmission.
The base level Corolla is called the CE. Standard equipment on this trim includes a CD audio system, air conditioning, 15-inch wheels, power mirrors and an out side temperature gauge.
This Corolla is not as variable as past models, currently offered only in sedan form. Some Toyota enthusiasts have called for the return compact wagon, but the Matrix now offers a stylish substitute. Both cars are built from the same platform. Drivers have also reported that the non-XRS models are less-than-thrilling to drive, but the combination of reliability and efficiency has continued to attract new buyers.

All Corolla models receive a slight face lift for the 2005 model year, including a redesigned front fascia and new taillights. Vehicle Stability Control is now optional.
While the S gets a more athletic appearance than its Corolla kin, it is powered by the same 1.8 liter DOHC inline four cylinder. A total of 130 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque is delivered to the front wheels through one of two transmission choices. Drivers can select the standard five-speed manual transmission, which is good for 32 mpg in the city and 41 on the highway. They may also opt for a four-speed automatic upgrade, which has an EPA of 30/38 mpg.
The S trim is differentiated from the CE and LE by looks alone. Although the S stands for 'Sport,' buyers who want a performance upgrade should select the new XRS. Both the XRS and S are set apart by a rear spoiler, a body kit with ground effects, fog lamps, and smoked headlamps. All of the CE standard features are also included.

The 2005 Corolla lineup gets some minor changes. Toyota's best-selling compact car was overhauled in 2003, and design updates for this year include new front end styling and tail lamps. Toyota has also added side-curtain airbags and Vehicle Stability Control to the options list.
This more upscale LE model has also been fitted with Optitron gauges for 2005. Other LE upgrades include remote keyless entry, power windows, power locks and a more powerful six speaker sound system. Toyota has also added some pseudo-wood veneers to this trim.
The Corolla is powered by a 1.8 liter inline four cylinder engine, which generates 130 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. The standard five-speed manual transmission offers gas mileage of 32/42 mpg, while the four-speed automatic is estimated at 30/38 mpg.
Along with its superior efficiency, the Corolla has long been praised for its build quality and durability, and many older models are still in action. While the Corolla's interior is quite spacious for a compact car, many drivers and reviewers have commented that the seating could be more accommodating.

The 2005 Toyota Corolla has received a slight face lift, with noticeable changes made to both the front end and the tail lights. New options include side-curtain airbags, stability control, and a premium JBL sound system.
Toyota has also added a fourth Corolla variation for 2005: the performance-focused XRS. The XRS is similar in appearance to the S trim, but several key mechanical enhancements have been added. A firmer sport suspension replaces the standard setup, and a more potent version of the 1.8 liter engine provides some additional horsepower.
This 1.8 liter inline four now generates 170 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque, and is further enhanced by a special Variable Valve Timing and Lift + intelligence system. The former Celica's six-speed manual is the only transmission option. Despite the extra power, fuel efficiency is still quite strong, at 26/34 mpg.
The XRS gets all of the S trim's equipment, including the body kit, rear spoiler, fog lights, and smoked headlamps. other upgrades include 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control and a tire pressure monitor.
