2005 GMC Safari Trims

3 Dr SLE AWD Passenger Van Extended

Included with the all-wheel drive feature in the 2005 GMC Safari SLE AWD Passenger Van is a limited slip center differential, and an optional locking rear differential is available as well. The extra road grip of the AWD is helped by 16-inch alloy wheels, 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, and the truck platform in this eight-passenger minivan. Other standard equipment includes dual front airbags, automatic headlights, and daytime running lights. Power comes from a 4.3-liter, 190-hp V6 and 4-speed auto tran with tow/haul mode. Equipped with trailer wiring, adding an optional trailer hitch allows you to tow up to 5200 pounds -- slightly less than the rear-wheel drive SLE, due to the extra weight of the AWD system.

The 2006 Safari SLE AWD features a full power setup, CD player, security system, cruise control, intermittent wipers, tilt steering wheel, tinted glass, and air conditioning. Both second and third row seats fold and can be removed, to increase storage space from 41-170 cubic feet. A roof rack is available for more storage. Options include a power driver's seat, rear climate control, running boards, a trip computer, and a rear window wiper. Dutch doors with an independent rear window can replace the traditional barn doors with a fixed window. Drivers like the roominess, but admit the interior is rather bland and the 16/21 mpg not so great.

A step up from the base model, the 2005 GMC Safari SLE Passenger Van offers a few more features, such as a CD player and a security system to the eight-passenger minivan. Featuring rear-wheel drive and a truck platform, the van works as either a family or cargo hauler, where the second and third row can be removed to open up the cargo area to 170 cubic feet. A 4.3-liter, 190-hp V8 and 4-speed automatic deliver 250 lb-ft of torque. Standard safety and performance equipment on the 2005 Safari SLE include 16 inch alloy wheels, 4-wheel ABS brakes, automatic headlights, daytime running lights, and dual front airbags. Side bags are not offered.

For driver and rider comfort, there's power windows, locks, and mirrors, intermittent wipers, cruise control, tilt steering, and privacy glass. There is a manual sliding door on the passenger side and dual rear doors with a fixed rear window, which can be replaced with Dutch doors where the rear window opens separately. The 2005 Safari SLE has more options than the base, including a power driver's seat, an overhead console, running boards, and a trip computer. You can also add on rear climate control, a roof rack, and a trailer hitch to tow up to 5400 pounds.

As the high-end trim of the eight-passenger minivan, the 2005 GMC Safari SLT Passenger Van offers a lot more standard features than the other trims in the lineup. The rear-wheel drive, truck-based van has three rows of seats, with the second and third row both foldable and removable to expand the 41 cubic foot cargo area to 170 cubic feet. Engine power is the same 4.3-liter, 190-hp V6 and 4-speed automatic with tow/haul mode, and the van rides on 16-inch alloy wheels. Dual front airbags, automatic headlights, daytime running lights, and 4-wheel ABS brakes are standard.

Beefing up what you get on the SLE, the 2005 Safari SLT features keyless entry, leather trim, a power driver's seat, a trip computer, overhead console, and both rear climate and audio control for the CD player. Full power features, intermittent wipers, a security system, and cruise control are also standard. A roof rack is also included with the SLT, and a trailer hitch can be added to tow up to 5400 pounds. Options add on leather seats, running boards, and a reclining rear seat. While drivers and passengers appreciate the room, a truck-like ride and low 16/21 mpg are downsides.
