CarGurus Overview

A bit more luxurious than the SE, the 2005 Ford Taurus SEL offers more features, but keeps the same powertrain, a 3.0-liter, 153-hp V6 or optional DOHC V6 that gets 201-hp.  Both come with a 4-speed automatic transmission.  The biggest change for the 2005 Taurus SEL is the wood package that is now standard, and includes wood trim for the doors, dash, and shift knob.  The SEL rides on 16-inch wheels and features dual front airbags.  A tire monitor will be offered later in the year, joining ABS brakes, front-side airbags, and traction and stability control on the options list.

Building on the power features, trip computer, cruise control, and security system of the SE, the SEL adds a 6-way driver's seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a CD player.  The sedan seats up to six, while the wagon seats up to eight with an optional rear seat, and the wagon's trunk can hold up to 81 cubic feet with the seats down, compared to 17 cubic feet in the sedan.  Options on the 2005 Taurus SEL include automatic headlights, a CD changer, a power passenger seat, leather upholstery, heated mirrors, automatic climate control, sunroof, and upgraded audio system.  Poor resale value, sluggish acceleration, and bland materials are downsides to the 2005 Taurus SEL, but owners are pleased with the reliability, smooth ride, and interior space.

This overview covers the SEL trim only.
