2005 Dodge Grand Caravan 4 Dr SXT Passenger Van Extended Review
ProsCheap, practical, usable on a daily basis. It's a good car. ConsNot a great appearance.

If You Have Kids And Need To Move Lots Of Stuff Around, It's A Great Alternative To An Suv. — This one will be broken into categories. Performance: The 3.8 liter V6 produces good power considering how heavy the car is. The brakes also work great, and stop it quite quickly. Handling is a negative, it is a minivan after all. Quality: Since it was bought back when it was new, it hasn't broken down on us once. It currently has 135,000 miles, and will keep going for a long time. Appearance: Once again, it's a minivan, not a sports car. If you want to look good while driving, buy something else. Cost: You can pick one of these up for about $6,000, which is good for the money. Fuel economy is pretty good, considering that it is a heavy van, don't expect 40 mpg, but mid 20s are easy to achieve. If you put forward the money for regular maintenance, you don't have to worry about repair cost for a long time. Fun Factor: Minivan = Not fun. You buy one of these for utility reasons, not for fun. Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsReliable, Low maine costs, decent fuel econ , excellent usability for our family of 5 ConsAir conditioning failed at 60K , everyone is driving one

Hard To Beat Family Hauler — Bought as a rebuilt unit with 20K on it .Put on over 60,000 miles with very few issues. If you have more that 2 kids this is hard to beat. The 3.3 is underpowered for all stow and go vans. spend the extra and get the 3.8l The gas milage is as good or better with the 3.8 My best on a 800 mile round trip was 30mpg (oversize tires at 45psi ) max of 65 mph drafting semis at 2 thousand counts Primary Use: Family transportation

Family Van — Its longevity was not as long as I had hoped and the brakes were replaced numerous times. My wife has absolutely loved it and has always thought that it was the perfect car for her. I thought the front seats were not comfortable. Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsThe stow and go seats are the best option on this van. The v-6 engine is reliable and powerful. The fluids are easily accessible for changing by the shade tree mechanic. ConsDoor locks sometimes need "resetting". The automatic doors are a little slow. You can't put the van in drive while the doors are closing. I hate waiting for them to close.

Utility! — I love the transformation from cargo to family carrier. The van is nice looking and fun to drive. Long trips are nice. Cruises at 75 beautifully. It's quiet and has a great sound system. I would refer this van to a friend. Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsThe interior features of this car are great. ConsMaintaining this car was very expensive

Reliability Concerns Are Valid. — We bought this car used in July of 2011 with 47K miles on it. In the 6 months that we owned it, we had to put over $1600 into it: water pump, intake gasket, front brake rotors, tires, O2 sensor, ABS sensor. It was one thing after another. It is so disappointing to see an American car this far behind its foreign competitors. The interior features are very good, but under the hood, it's a different story. Most online reviews share these concerns. Perhaps newer models are better, but this one was bad. Really, really bad. Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsStow 'n Go seats are outstanding. Also, 1st & 2nd row heated seats and heated steering wheel are nice amenities. ConsNothing in particular yet.

My 4th Grand Caravan. — Good pickup, convenience of hauling lots of stuff, decent fuel economy for a van. This is the last year for Grand Caravans, so I wanted a new one. Reliability of my previous ones has been outstanding, so I'm hoping for the same here. Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsSliders, great for kids. ConsIt's a mini-van!

Not In Love With It, But Certainly Practical. — I think the overall quality is average, being used to performance vehicles this doesn't quite do it for me. The gas mileage is pretty good given it's size, sadly I don't find it much fun to drive and would not have bought it if not for our growing family. Primary Use: Family transportation

Great 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan — surprising living fun to drive yet to have any problems at 125000 miles it is a minivan what can i say it gets about 22.1 mpg on the freeway and a bit less off Fun to drive and you can store a ton of stuff with the sto-n-go and the hole the seats leave behind Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsComfortable seating and practical size inside and out. ConsPoor gas mileage

Grand Caravan Ok Except For Mileage. — This is our third Grand Caravan, so we must be moderately satisfied. The others were a 1990 and a 1997. It might be closer to the truth to say that we were not attracted to the vans built by GM and Ford, and the Honda and Toyota are too expensive.
