2004 Kia Spectra 1.8l — I bought my 1.8L base model Kia Spectra for $9,000 brand new in 2/2004. I will be hitting 100,000mi in a month. I have never had any problems with this car. I don't even change the oil as often as I should (I do use synthetic though). The only maintenance I have done is to take it in for a tune up and timing belt replacement at 60,000mi. It gets about 35mi/gal, has a fairly decent stock stereo system, and looks just as good as most of the standard 4 door sedans out there. I do not have anything extra in the commuter car, but it is fun and easy to drive, and it has never let me down. I was even able to drive it right up to Mt. Baker after a snow storm with no problems. For $9,000 I could not have asked for a better car.

Great Gas Mileage Car!!! — This car got very good gas mileage! We had some problems with the rear brakes. Had to replace them and parking brakes. It seemed like we were always replacing something with the brakes. Didn't pay much for the car, So I guess I can't complain!! Once we got all the kinks out of the brakes, the car was a great car!!!! had no other problems with it!!!

Good Gas Saver In The Economy Now — I recently bought this car and it seems to be a reliable car within the first month. I filled the gas tank for about $36 on Feb. 25th and almost a 200mi with 1/3 of a tank left. So far, so good!!!

Pros

Gas mileage, low maintenance, looks nice, only required maintenance thus far put into it....very reliable...great on long distances.

Cons

Back seat is small for teenager's long legs.  Wish it had power windows, locks.  Difficult to work on.

Great Little Car! — I bought this car with 16,000 miles on it in 2005. Today, I have over 130K miles on the car and it still runs great. Other than routine maintenance, I have had to put very little money into it. On occasion the car will hesitate, especially when the air conditioner is on. However, this happens rarely. Lately there has been a rattle that I cannot identify, but hey, it's got 130K miles on it. I get between 25-30 mpg HWY and about 20-25 City. I definitely feel safe driving it, and I would buy another newer model if this one ever stops running.

Pros

I have a blue interior lights for the speedometer, and all my plastics are bright silver painted.

Cons

Transmission

115

Blue Spectra 04 — Performance: The acceleration on the manual is better than expected, and the brakes do a great job of stopping the car. When taking normal turns at higher speeds the car does have quite a bit of understeer, which is expected since it is a FWD. Quality: Overall I am satisfied with the build quality. The only problem I seem to have is with the transmission which doesn't seem to be build as solid as the rest of the car. Appearance: I find the exterior styling gracious and like the body style quite a lot. The interior is much more spacious than you would expect. With a little modifications the interior can be upgraded nicely, and cheap.

Pros

Regular maintenance performed on the vehicle. No major problems with anything. Great warranty, 10 years 100,000 miles. Currently at 140,000+ and still purring like a kitten. Great sound system stock. Large trunk for its size. Full impact front and side airbags (never used).

Cons

Tight engine compartment, slightly difficult to work on as with most compact cars. Timing belt is interrupting type. Can cause serious damage to engine if not replaced in a timely manner. Recommended replacement is at 80,000 miles. Expensive to replace ($400) but well worth it as I've had previous experience with timing belt breakage resulting in the sale or trade in of both vehicles. I've been having to replace the brake light bulbs more often than other cars I've owned in the past, but that is a minor inconvenience. Small back seat space (not very comfortable for in-laws!).

Awesome! Great Deal And Virtually Worry Free. — Loved how solid it felt while driving it compared to cheaper models like the Rio or a Saturn. The sound system blew me away and I crank it when the family is not in the car! The car has been very reliable and my wife and I have shared it for over 6 years for work, driving the kid to school, and weekend camping trips. Smooth ride, great on gas, and the trunk has lots of room. Plus you can't beat the warranty or the price.

Pros

Generally no problems, put gas in it, change oil and tires, that's about it.

Cons

speedometer malfunctions alot; dealer installed alarm system is quirky, ride is kind of rough, interior quality is so-so, paint on plastic front facade peeled, window visors vinyl cracked.

2004 1/2 Kia Spectra Ex (california Model) — I bought this for my wife new, and except for the quirky speedo and the pain in the rear alarm/pwr lock system, she likes it. It gets pretty good mileage, hasn't had any significant maintenance problems, in comparison to the 2005 Ford Focus I bought at roughly the same time. The paint work is crappy on the exterior plastic parts, and the visor vinyl on the driver side cracked after a yr, but other than that a decent car. Not very peppy, but it get's the job done. Looks are not too bad, my wife is short and has no problem with driver ergonomics.
