Not much is added to the 2004 Kia Rio Sedan, besides an optional rear spoiler (already optional on the Cinco wagon) and new manual driver's lumbar support. The 2004 Rio got a makeover last year, but it still is lacking in standard features in order to keep the price down on this affordable, yet peppy subcompact. It is fueled by a 1.6-liter, 104-hp twin-cam I4, and transmission choices range from standard 5-speed manual to 4-speed automatic.
With a 26/33 estimated fuel economy and not much standard equipment, you won't be spending a lot on the 2004 Rio. Power disc brakes, intermittent wipers, rear defrost, and dual front airbags are standard. A radio/CD player, air conditioning, power windows, locks, and power steering will cost you extra. 4-wheel ABS can also be substituted for the disc brakes. A tachometer, overhead console, rear spoiler, and tilt steering wheel are also extra. Rear seats do not fold down, so the trunk is small (9.2 cubic feet). As consolation there are four cupholders up front, two in the center and one in each door panel.

The 2004 Kia Rio Cinco wagon gets new 14-inch alloy wheels this year, and not much else, since it went through a makeover in 2003. Being on the budget side of the economy compact market, the Rio Cinco is not the car you're looking for if you need personal luxury and convenience. But it is an effective and affordable commuter car that holds up to 44.3 cubic feet of cargo and can still fit into the tiniest of parallel parking spaces.
Powered by a 1.5-liter, 104-hp I4 engine and choice of 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, the 2004 Rio Cinco adds power steering, a tachometer, rear window wiper, a CD player, and a center console to what you get with the Rio sedan (which is basically intermittent wipers and dual front airbags). The Cinco also has fold-down rear seats. Luxuries such as power windows and locks, air conditioning, a rear spoiler, and ABS brakes will cost you extra. Owners say the 2004 Rio Cinco is surprisingly roomy and comfortable for a compact, and its lightweight body means the small I4 engine is actually pretty zippy. Rear legroom is the biggest drawback.
