Pros

Unbelievable Gas-engine torque paired with the 5 speed auto makes an great family tow vehicle.

Cons

Rear suspension is a little stiff for only a 2500.  Cloth seat bottoms break down in about 60-70K miles and feel like sitting on a brick.  Leather seating package on this generation truck is the ultimate.  Instrument panel will need replaced in most of the 2004-2005 trucks.

Function Not Fluff — This truck is all about function. This HD package with 8.1L and Allison Transmission is the ultimate gasoline-fueled drive train. Short bed unloaded rides a little choppy even with 45 psi in rear tires as the rear spring pack is very stiff. The long-bed model definitely benefits from the wheelbase increase in the ride quality area when not loaded or towing. The HD has a nice looking higher stance than the standard duty 1500/2500. I have owned both the short bed crew cab 2500HD and also the long bed crew cab 3500 SRW and for towing only occasionally and driving daily, I would recommend the long bed for ride quality even though it's a little tougher to maneuver tight streets and parking decks, the ride improvement overall is well worth it. Also the 2004-2005 instrument panels have a history for gauge malfunctions. Luckily these instrument panels are easily repaired or replaced.

Pros

Very Fast and Powerful for  a truck, can beat most stock sports cars, Good Fuel economy for a truck 18-20mpg, Good handling for a truck, if you want it to roll coal it will leave a wall of a black cloud,  Good style in my opinion, Excellent sound, no real blind spots, no heavy repair or maintenance cost other than oil changes $60. Always feels like your in control.

Cons

2wd, squeeks when hitting bumps due to the traction bars, other drivers trying to challenge you at every light, little too touchy of a throttle when hitting bumps

Heck Of A Truck, Complete Monster That Still Has Potential For More. — Heck of a truck. Will get you where you need to go with a smile on your face. Real head turner not just for looks but the sound will turn heads too. EFI Live is awesome. Wish it was 4wd even though I never really need it.

Hard Running Truck — great for long trips, pulls the camper well & hauls things excellent. have used it for lots of hauling and towing and always gotten along well with it the only problem we have had with it is the 4wd not wanting to engage.

Pros

Full Power. I can tow just about anything. I don't need a four door pick up but really like the extended cab. Quite comfortable to drive ( even on a long drive ) and incorporates the duel range transmission.

Cons

Costly to drive (which is why it is my weekend hauler). Had dash cluster problems with this unit and replaced with updated instruments.

For What I Use It For (hauling A Boat, camper, Utility Trailer) Can't Ask For More. — I've owned both the 2500HD and the 1500 series Chevy pickup's and feel the 2500HD's have it all over the rest. This is a nice compromise truck. Lots of power but still a comfortable ride, but if you are going to own one no complaining about economy. Use it for what it was built for and you'll always be happy.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros

Big Strong Diesel  Work Truck

Cons

Off-Road, get stuck in 4wd a lot!!! You have to air down tires, or you really should install a locker

Strong Work Truck — Love this Diesel truck, great on the highway! Does need improvements in stock form, but luckily the aftermarket world has you covered. Be prepared to spend lots of money compared to a little 4 cyl. truck. Also everything is heavy-duty! Beats the gas powered trucks hands down in mileage, power, and engine life!

Pros

more than ample power for towing or hauling. fairly quiet interior, as compared to other diesels (i.e. cummins or powerstroke) comfortable to drive

Cons

Diesels can cost more to maintain if not taken care of properly.

Impressive Beast. — The LLY is a good reliable duramax engine. Not has powerful as a LBZ (2006.5-2007) but decent fuel milage and it doesnt have all the emission crap on it. The LLY was proned to overheating, which is easily fixed by adding a cold air intake, which I did.

Pros

This truck pulls my 5th wheel RV like a dream.

Cons

There are a few things Chevy could have done to improve this truck. Like a lift pump at the tank.

Awesome Truck! — I love my Duramax! It's power is remarkable. I'd put it against any other diesel any day. Breaking is also very good with its 4 wheel disk breaks. Handling, they could have tightened up the suspension a bit and taken the bounce out of the front end.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Boss — Lots of muscle and very dependable. I got over 263000 miles on him and he never gives me problems. Bought it second hand in 2012 and it's been my best friend ever since. Only major downfall it's no four wheel drive and the fuel economy is terrible.

Its A Damn Good Truck — Solid truck with plenty of power. With a 3 speed transmission with the addition of overdrive and compound gears in addition to 4WD low and high it has a wide range of power. Not the best on gas but it makes up for it with its power and durability. Had one problem with the manifold gasket leaking.

Pros

great truck to get thing done. I use it for everything from loading a whole pallet of cynder blocks to load of stone, dirt to even taken garbage down. This truck is a great truck to plow with.

Cons

Unfortunately i think it has just reached its age for  things to break. I have recently replaced the starter, alternator,AC got a pin hole in the line, the brake lines went, replaced battery, and both exhaust manifolds rotted out. besides the regular maintance of tires brakes etc. Now that that is all fixed truck purrs like a kitten. No problem with the engine or transmission

Tough Truck — As i put in pros and cons in this review, this truck performs. I have owned chevrolet trucks since 1994 and they seem to only get better with more options. The truck has always completed the task that i put it through. This truck gets only about 10 to 12 mpg city with its 6.0 litre 300 horsepower. for the money this is a great truck. Now that all the odds and ends have broken. I suspect I should be good for another 8 years.
