2004 Chevrolet Cavalier Base Review
ProsMileage and acceleration is much faster than expected ConsNot as smooth as a larger car or as much room for large people

Great Daily Use Car — This car is excellent for daily commute use. It will not hold back any traffic as it is much faster than most people give it credit for. The size makes it able to avoid pot holes and the fold down rear seats let it hold enough luggage or groceries for just about anyone. This car was modified to become the Chevy Cobalt after 2006 (?). The inside and engine were pretty much the same. Chevy had the mistaken impression that the Cavalier was a bad reputation car. It had some years where it wasn't as dependable as others just as the Ford Taurus and several other cars. Main thing I liked was that it has a timing CHAIN, not a BELT. So it doesn't need that several hundred dollar job to change the belt every 60,000 or 80,000 miles. Most cars in the sub compact range have a belt. Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsEasy on the gas, gets the job done. ConsWould love more power.

Econobeast — Great gas-sipper! It was a cheap buy but has made me happy. Could have more power but I guess we'd have to trade some of that economy if it did. Pretty fun car to drive, especially in the city. I like whipping it through traffic. Fits in tight spots too. Gas mileage is good, over 30 highway mpg. Maintenance is cheap compared to other cars that have needed the same type of work. Primary Use: Commuting to work

It A Great Car For A First Time Car If Your Single — Pefrormance- got a short arm intake. Rav tec muffler. and just put in high flow injecters, and a header. Apperarance- the car is stream line and very sporty. It a great car to drive. Cost of Ownership- I get about 35mpg witch last me about 2 week for a tank of gas. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Good Starter Car For New Drivers — Recently was totaled in a 3 car accident, I was in the middle. Very good passenger protection. I hate that it is gone. Had good power, good mileage, good looks and handling. Did not care for the cheap interior. Oh well. Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsCheap, Cheap on gas, Fairly quick, Fun to drive ConsNo options, bad quality, noisy

O.k Car, Excellent For The Price — It was a good car for the price. Those are some of the cheapest cars you could purchase, used or new, back then. It was fun to drive, had good mileage (7l/100km) and was quite roomy for a compact car. The seats were awful and cheap, but what can you expect for a 12,000$ car when new (in Canadian dollars). Much bigger and reliable than a Hyundai Accent of the same vintage for a comparable price. The clutch throw was long and the shifter was quite stiff and unpleasant, and the car was noisier than the Chevette I currently drive. The ecotec engine was a great improovement over the older ones, but it was still very noisy and sounded like it was eating itself away past 3000rpm, although it was quite reliable. ProsGas Miles ConsThe hood is stuck

I Love It So Far — The hood keeps sticking and I have to replace the latch because of it but I looked all over online and it's great on gas and has no real problems other than the dash board chipping away at corners near the steering wheel. Primary Use: Family transportation

My Car Can Be Used For Anything From Daily Driving To Racing If You Put The Time And Money Into It — For as long as i've had this car i've put very little money into it compared to all of my other vehicles. as for the MPG its fairly decent at 28-29 City, 34-36 Highway. For it only being a baseline model it leaves room for a lot more improvements to be done to it. I never would have thought that i would enjoy driving around in a cavalier but it is a very smooth ride. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsLooks great, sounds great, all the upgrades, and low miles. ConsThe cops keep an eye on you cause its so easy to spot.

Its Great. — I love this car! It accelerates great because of the header, throttle body spacer, cold air intake, and the full exhaust system. The cavaliers is an LS Sport, so it has an upgraded suspension. All the aftermarket things on it were put on correctly, not the 'cheap' way. The appearance of the car is great. The body is in great condition, it has a full body kit, headlight covers, and the taillights are painted black. And also the black powder coated Diablo rims make it look great. The gas mileage is pretty good, not as good as a stock cavalier because of all the engine upgrades, but thats ok :). The car is in great mechanical condition because it only has 34,000 miles on it, so it will last a long time. The car is really fun to drive around in because it sounds great, it looks good, and you get looked at A LOT! Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |
