Pros

Great family car.

Cons

Missing all the features I got customed to in my BMW 750.

Can Handle Anourmous Abuse. — The Skoda Octavia almost produces gasoline. I hardly feel the rising gas prices. I use it for family errands, and I must say the car can take anourmous abuse, i.e. stomping on seats, ice cream on doors, smears on windows and children behaviour in general. Of course skoda Octavia is not the most glamorous car available, nor is it ridden with features, but for it's purpose it's a car I can recommend.

A Worthy Consideration For Anyone Who's Not A Badge Snob. — This has to be one of the most complete family cars going. It may not be a great opening statement, but this car is a fantastic all- rounder. I've always been a fan of the Octavia's looks, which I think are suitably chunky. It's a very simple design that some people find old-fashioned. Performance is interesting. The peak torque comes in quite low, around 1,800rpm when the turbo comes on song. Accelerating from 1,000rpm, you get the full benefit of the turbo boosting up... it's a very addictive surge! It's quite consistent throughout the rev range. Not too narrow. On the other side of performance, the brakes are incredibly keen. Build quality is a bit of a difficult subject currently. Car was purchased with lacking glow plugs, which is poor service quality, not an indictment on the car itself. Also, the Xenon headlights are a tad troublesome. Apart from that, for a car that's gone to the moon (127,000 miles), it's solid and feels like it would last another 127,000 easy. Leather seats aren't worn, and they are very comfortable. It pulls like a train. Appearance is a double-edged sword. Whilst it looks like an Octavia, there are subtle differences that mark it out. Nice alloys, body-coloured bits and pieces. Interior is another thing altogether. Comfortable leather, soft-touch plastics, electric everything, Xenon headlights, parking sensors, cruise control, climate control... it's very well loaded up. Not just for the price, this car has plenty going for it! Cost of ownership... a double-edged sword. So far, as previously mentioned, there have been a few teething problems due to poor prior care. New glow plugs are not cheap. Neither are the Xenon headlight units. However, servicing is cheap and it is incredibly economical, considering that it's fairly powerful. As far as fun goes, it's a little bit like making an elephant do the 100m hurdles if you decide to hustle the car along. Riotous fun, but best treated carefully! The back end is surprisingly lively. Steering is fairly communicative, well-weighted and direct. Chassis isn't the freshest, its roots being well and firmly stuck in 1998, but it's still good to drive.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

Stunning performance; great build quality

Cons

Rear leg room a bit limited

The Best Car I Have Owned! — I have only owned this car for a couple of months and already I love it. The performance is stunning, especially as it is now been tuned from 180bhp to 225bhp. Superb acceleration, with option to turn traction control on/off. The braking and handling is great. The build quality is high class. Comfy and smooth enough to drive long distances. When driven normally, it can still put out about 40mpg. If anyone wanted a family sized car with power of a sports car, then I would recommend one of these.

Cons

My Daily Driver — 60mpg and an engine that'll do 250 k miles without difficulty, what's not to like. Bought this one with 90k on the clock and it is like new, part exed it for one that had 185k, which didn't. Costs sod all to run, and I know it is going to work when I get in it every day.

Pros

Fun and under stated

Cons

If you can't see past the badge

Quick Well Built Family Car — A car that performs better than people would expect from the badge, Volkswagen build at a budget price, 180 brake and top speed of around 146 puts this car in the sight of fast Fords and is quite easy to annoy the drivers of ST's RS's and VXR's just adds to the fun

Skoda — Excellent engine, stiff chassis, but rather poor quqlity regarding plastics excellent performance on highways and twisty roads huge trunk very good car for tunning (up to 300bhp with no more than 4000 euros) the best car 13000 EUROS can buy.

Pros

Reliable, plenty of space and big boot

Cons

Could really only be better with a turbo

25

Skoda Octavia — Performance is adequate for the engine type. Never gone wrong and still gets over 60mpg. Handling is decent and braking is strong. The boot is huge. It is definitely a 5-6 body holder, for the Dexters amongst you. This car should see another 150,000 miles with no problems. There are no rattles or squeaks anywhere on this car, so the build quality is good. It is years ahead of any American cars in this regard. If you don't have a big budget, then the Octavia is the best value for money you will find.
