2003 Mitsubishi Galant Overview
Overall User Score
Based on 17 reviews
There are no significant changes to the Mitsubishi Galant for 2003. The ES is no available with a Sun and Sound option package, which includes a 210-watt Infinity sound system, a sunroof and 16-inch alloy wheels. Traction control is now standard on the LS models.
The Galant continues with two engine options in 2003. A 2.4 liter four cylinder engine powers the DE, ES and the LS. This power plant generates 145 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. The ES V-6, LS V-6 and GTZ models get a 3.0 liter V-6, producing 195 horsepower and 205 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is estimated at 21/28 mpg with the four and 20/27 mpg with the V-6. A four-speed automatic is the Galant's only transmission option.
The attractive and distinctly styled Galant is easily distinguished from its mid-size competitors, and it scores above the class average in nearly every category. The Galant has never had the success of the Toyota Camry or the Honda Accord, but many reviewers continue to assert that it is one of the best buys in this hotly contested automotive segment.
The Galant's top attributes include athletic handling abilities, and a comprehensive list of standard features at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately, the Galant is not as powerful as many competitors and there is no manual transmission available, despite the sedan's sporting orientation.
