2003 Land Rover Discovery Review
ProsFun to drive, Cache value, invincible, ConsGas hog, high maintenance costs, Height prevents parking in some car parks.

Could Be Called Lard Rover, I Digress — I love this truck. It's beautiful, it's cool, it's got cahce value. Then I come back down to reality. It's like a punch to the groin every time I fill up. It has a 96 L tank and it needs it. In a strong head wind you can actually see the gas gauge going down. Wow. The truck itself is a lot of fun. It drives really nicely, a little too much cabin noise on the highway, but that's to be expected when it's shaped like a brick. My experience in the winter is that snow tires are a good idea. It really wants to plow ahead in turns and stopping is nervewracking at times. However, when there's been a blizzard and there's two feet of snow on the ground, the Disco is super fun to go pull other SUV's out of the ditch with or just drive around knowing that you can get through anything. Invincible. There are a number of squeeks They seem to come from the 'Duragrain' seat material rubbing together. Irritating. The traction control light has been on almost since I bought it. Maurice (that's right, I know my tech on a first name basis) has been unable to find the cause, despite dozens of trips to the dealer. Irritating. The cost to repair mundane things is high. I replaced the rear brake pads and rotors. It cost me over $700.00 CDN. I thought the dealer was gauging me, but after calling several garages, found out this was the going rate. This is double what it costs for my car for similar work. There are some design issues that I would correct if i could. The front cup olders hit me right in the knee. The front seat doesn't go back far enough. The rear door window should roll down so you can stick lumber or something out of it. The rear doors are a little small to get in and out of. The steering wheel should tilt higher. I know there are cheaper SUVs to drive, but this vehicle just has a certain something that makes it really special. I definitiely have a love hate relationship with it.

Proslove the off road capability Conseverytime you remove or change the battery, the temp guages switch back to celcius.

Great Truck, Low Miles & Kinda Suites Me... — I love my truck...it fits me perfectly! It isn't for everyone, I love the outdoors and so the off road capability is wonderful for me. It is spacious in the back seats and holds my system plus a months worth of food from costco in the rear/ trunk (if u will) I don't like how the clock has to have a special tool to change the time... also, the air/heat display is in celcius because i had to change the battery a few months ago and I don't know how to get it back to farenheit. The gas is a little steep for my wallet, but I don't do enough driving to warent that being an issue. It is very fun to drive! Primary Use: Commuting to work

Prosgreat reaction when driving, awsome sound system, smooth ride Consexpencive to fix minor issues

Fun Ride But Pricey To Own — this truck is solid all around... in WNY winters it a MUST have. i previously owned a jeep wrangler, an amazing 4 wheel drive vehicle. switching i immeditly tested it out off road (purchased in December) i found myself towing dodges and fords out of snow drifts. as far as quality i have only had one problem which was a costly fix. this truck is a DOG, but sport mode does add a little pep.the interior and exterior are both good looking. gas is a bi issue for this if your thinking of owning one commit to 100-120 in gas weekly and expensive repairs if anything does go wrong .overall though i would not trade my truck for anyting else in its class (jeeps, explorers ect..) definitely a truck that gets you noticed and compliments.. Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsOur family loves our disco. ConsCould maybe use less fuel?

Disco 2, Takes You There With Care. — You can go fast! I can go everywhere. Honestly, I have my second Discovery now. And I would not change it. It works great at a family car, everything fits in the car. And the car can go almost anywhere. A bit much consumed, but thats what you get when you have a v8. If I would buy one again today, I would take the same car, with a TD5. The rest would stay as is. One Life Live IT!! Go Beyond!

Pros4x4 will go any place Cons12-14 mpg

Will Go Any Place But Uses Gas To Get There — I purchased this car over a year ago with 118k on it and have put about 10k on it with only one repair needed, a new starter. It has served my house hold reliably. Over all for the price I paid I would say its been an excellent value. If you get one that's been well maintained and have a little extra money to pay for repairs/parts when things come up then this could be a good suv for you. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsBeautiful, powerful, comfortable and fun Consexpensive to fix and drive

Beautiful, Comfortable And Terribly Expensive — I love everything about this truck except that it is terribly terribly expensive to repair and it gets about 14 mpg. It's comfortable and very fun to drive. The interior is very attractive. Four wheel drive works very well and it can tow a trailer very comfortably.

This Is The Best Car I Have Ever Driven — Best car I have ever driven. No other car that one can drive will compare. Land Rovers' are special vehicles and are worth every penny. Just because it is big and tall doesn't mean that it can't take curves, it handles them like a champ. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

For The Price - Disco 03' & 04' Are Good Trucks — I've been Lucky, many friends have had LR and have been up a creek. When BMW took over LR in 2003 they put their 5 seriew motor in the 03' & 04' Disco. this was the last year that LR made the Disco in the US. the name and body changed to the LR3 Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

ProsUsually gets you to where you need to go with plenty of room. ConsUncomfortable and is very thirsty.

Land Rover Discovery Se7 2003 — The miles per gallon is horrible. Acelleration is typical for a car of its size. Handling is not good. Braking is satisfactory. It has needed repairs. Not a very good value. Not a fun car to drive. Brakes were squeaky. Rattles while driving and doors and overall interior feels "clangy" when on the highway. The exterior design is not good. The interior design is not bad but not astonishing. The back seats are extremely stiff and hard and uncomfortable. The front seats are not comfortable either. The LR3 (successor) has much improvement. |
