Pros

Can fit a lot in the trunk, great for areas with snowy winters

Cons

Fuel economy is not its strong point

Good For Families — Overall it is a sensible truck. It feels heavy, but also feels really planted while driving. Performance wise its not going to win any races, but at least it moves and it can get going fast if you give it enough space. The V8 is faster, but the fuel economy suffers because of that. The build quality isn't spectacular because it does have random squeaks and rattles, but nothing major has gone wrong with it. It is a great all purpose truck, plus it handle's New England winters very well.

Great Car For Family — car served me well over the years, great on the road, handles well for a larger vehicle, no major repairs in the eight years that I have owned this truck, this is a much more versatile and durable than a mini-van or a crossover

Some Build Quality Issues But Overall Been Good To Me — heres the deal 75000 miles, driver side door pin goes bad (common on ford trucks), cruise control intermittently works, fuel economy sucks (just got back from Florida avg 18.2 mpg), but on the plus side, never been stuck in anything, comfortable for 4 adults, great road manners, good stereo for factory, looks good.

Good Suv Choice — Overall the Explorer is a great SUV, however I strongly disagree with U-Haul's decision to ban the Ford Explorer from pulling it's rental trailers. The Mercury Mountaineer has the exact same chassis, wheel base etc, it's basically the exact same vehicle yet they don't ban the Mountaineer.

Cons

No real complaints. Like I said, didn't really have it long enough.

Great Car. — Didn't really have this truck for very long. Every thing on this truck felt confidante. A really joy drive. Acceleration was great on it as well as handling. Mileage on it was better than expected. Had to replace the alternator while I owned it and was a pretty inexpensive part.

I Like It Just Fine — I went from a Suzuki sidekick to this Ford Explorer when I ran out of room for kids and stuff. I like the room in the Explorer and have had no major issues with it. Other than routine maintenance the only issue I have had is to replace the ball joints and the front bearing assembly. All stuff done at home with my shade tree mechanics.

Its Just Ok — box like, abs light comes on all the time when accelerating on the highway. accessing the third row is a pain. it has a v6 but it consumes gas like a v8 without the power of the v8. It is just for transporting things.
