Pros

Runs good, feels solid, plenty of power with the 4.7L engine.
First engine lasted 260,000 miles (Dodge used Mercedes engines in this model).

Cons

- AC / Heat / Defrost controller broke twice - very expensive to fix.
- Replaced heater twice - broken again now.  Another $300 to replace it.
- AC has never worked well, replaced compressor, condensor, air dryer, etc.  still doesn't get cold like it should.
- Computer Control Unit has issues and is too expensive to fix
- Air bag light is on - can't turn it off without replacing Computer Control Unit (by dealer only)
- The interior plastic dash cover that is exposed to the sun is completely cracked and in terrible shape.  I'm told this is common in these Dodge Ram trucks. Again, very expensive to replace.
- Wide turning radius as with most quad-cab trucks

Dodge Ram 1500 Good Truck, But Has Some Issues... — Overall pretty good solid truck, but have had some problems. I would recommend this truck to a friend, but with several warnings! But I might get a Nissan Fronteer Quad Cab, or a GMC Sierra, or Chevy Silverado next time. I've used my truck for all around commuting to work, family outings, towing boat, hauling wood and soils, and just about everything in between.

Good Truck — Good Truck for work and play, this truck is good for towing, hauling and since it is a quad cab, carrying your family and friends to work and on vacation. Get a used one and have a good deal for everyone.

Pros

4wd works amazingly well.  Has NEVER left me stranded due to road conditions

Cons

~replacing battery cables is a real bitch!

I Love My Truck For The Most Part — I love the truck. I've been using it during hunting season for the past 4 years and it has Never left me stranded or let me down, as of yet anyway, Gas mileage is good for the engine size (4.7L V8) and as long as you keep your foot out of it while driving on highways. I do wish it had more bang for the buck as far as power goes though, it doesn't seem to have as much power as you would expect for a V8 engine, but overall, I am extremely happy with my pickup. It is great for towing, hauling, four-wheelin', and is a pleasure to drive and own. the only real issue I have is accessing portions of the engine especially right now when I am trying to replace both battery cables. I cannot seem to find a way to access the part of the positive battery cable that attaches to the starter portion of the engine. I have been trying everything I can think of, aside from actually removing other parts on the engine, to access it and remove the old cable. I'm gonna try removing parts today and see if that allows me access to it so i can get my truck back up and running again. I really do love my truck 99% of the time. LOL

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Never Again — I bought this truck as a light duty use vehicle and was totally disappointed in the build quality of this Dodge so much tghat I will never ever own a Dodge ever! I still use this truck as a utility truck for home projects or moving needs but nothing more.

Pros

It's a nice truck over all. Great when u have a family or want to go on hunting trips up in northern Michigan.

Cons

It only gets 14 mpg no matter how I drive it.

85

Great Truck But 14 Mpg Kinda Sucks — The 14 mpg is a little ridiculous. The powers not there even though I only have 20,000 miles on a rebuild. I'm really starting to hate my dodge truck. I'm about to buy another FORD so I can get my power back.

Good Truck! — This is a big truck and has been a good one. Since the dealer went out of business, had a hard time finding a good mechanic and the truck is getting a bit of age on it now, so I have finally found one.

Big Bad Turck — This is our camper truck. It is great for us and the dogs. Handles well with pulling the camper. Love the color. Comfortable to travel in. Nice to drive. Great room on the inside. Easy maintenance. Would buy another. This is the third that I have had.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Decent Truck — Has been a good truck. Drives good and not much trouble until now. Now has 144k miles and has electrical problems. Will try to fix it myself. I'll report back here once I have it fixed. Wish me good luck lol.

Pros

Lots of room, lots of comfort, but mainly lots of POWER.  The 5.7L Hemi Mag under the hood is impressive off the line, but far more impressive from 50-70 mph on the highway.  I pulled at 32 ft boat in some hills in KY and had to check to see if the trailer was still attached.  You tend to forget when hauling due to the effortless shifting and microscopic hesitation when  you step on the accelerator.

Cons

Gas mileage is poor, especially in town.  Dodge (and Ford, for that matter) used sound-dampening foam inside the wheel wells, which retained moisture that lead to a bit of rust damage over the years, but easily fixable if caught soon.

35

A Bottomless Pit Of Muscle Combined With Your-favorite-seat Comfort. — The advantages and comforts are obvious from the first time you sit in the driver's seat, while the fuel mileage will bring you back to reality quickly. The whole family can be hauled without anyone touching each other, and the baby in the car seat is well protected if we were to wreck. From 50-70 mph, you are hard pressed to find a more powerful V8 without a tiny two seater sports coupe. Highly recommend this vehicle...if you live close to a gas station.
