Just A Flat Out Sweet Ride — Purchased this car in 2004 when I traded in my truck. We have had this car ever since. I have had zero mechanical problems and the only time she has been in the shop is when she has body damage.

Pros

Reliable, comfortable, cavernous trunk, steady handling and loves to cruise.

Cons

Squeaky chassis, iffy HVAC, seats that are barely holding on, a forgettable stock sound system, no ABS (go figure).

Honest Transportation Eclipsed By The New Malibu. — This is my 5th Chev product. I guess you could say I'm a "bow-tie guy", but hey I aspire to have one of their best one day. A Corvette may be a bit out of reach, but GM has me because I DRIVE my car daily and, for the most part, my Chevys don't let me down. Could it be quieter? Sure. Could the HVAC work better? Sure. Could it use ABS? Absolutely! But for what you pay there is little else in this price range that will give you all the Impala does. Also, I'm a BIG guy. There are a lot of us out there, and few supposed full-size cars fit us well. Fewer mid-sizers, too. Where would I go from here? The new Saturn Aura looks good to me, and I know the local dealership's service manager. If money were no object - the new, not here yet but soon, Cadillac V8.

Cons

The occasional squeak or thump.

I Like My Impala — I like my Impala. It's fits me and I'm a big guy. I had a 1998 Honda Accord (4 cyl.) before this which I had no problems with, but this car is actually bigger, more powerful and gets better gas mileage. Go figure!

Good Car To Get You Where You Are Going And Can Look Sweet In — As it is stock....kinda lame, but there are lots of things you can do to it to make it look/perform better

Pros

I am unsure of the gas mileage, especially since my brother probably doesnt know how to calculate it, but i would guess its pretty good, comfortable, powerful and seemed very solid. Some nicer features for being a base model, including the RDS radio, seemed pretty powerful for being a stock radio.  Dual heat seems like it could be a good idea as well but didnt really use it when i drove the car.

Cons

I sit in the driver seat a wierd way and let me tell you there was this damn piece of plastic right where i put my left leg, slightly perturbing. My brother's is also the base model, so limited options, including no tach. I also dont like where the ignition is, seems too easy to hotwire (esp if it was like the malibu's, my friend's was extremely easy to pull the trim off of and seems like you could tamper with too easily) and if you are used to the 80% of cars that have the ignition on the column, something to get used to.

Solid Car — My brother just bought one of these, in spite of it costing a fortune, and its a pretty nice car. I've been eyeing this car for a little while, mainly a retired police unit, just so I can have a powerful car, yet one that is still great on gas mileage. Seemed powerful for being a 3400 (which happens to be a consideration for a replacement engine in my car), it has a few flaws, as would any used car but it still looks to be a worthy car to own

Pros

Safe, reliable, decent power, comfortable

Cons

huge, hard to park, gas mileage is tolerable, not really that sporty

Sensible Family Sedan — Car has been a pleasant surprise even though it is a giant 4 door family sedan and I don't really need that yet. Very reliable have not ever taken it into the dealership and it has 70,000 miles. Decent gas mileage, I only wish I had gotten something a little sportier because the next time I do buy a new car I probably will have a family

A Very Underrated Car. — A fine comfortable car to drive. Short turning radius. Power enough. Smooth handling. Economical traveling at 30 mpg. It also has curbside appeal. LP

Pros

Leather interior, sunroof. Handles well, lots of power. Normal maintenance for me has seemed to be cost efficient so far.

Cons

These cars are notorious for transmission issues, which I'm beginning to find out.

Intial Impression Is Fantastic. I Love This Car. — I bought this car from a private party with 90k on it. This car has all the bells and whistles you could ask for in a sedan, leather, power everything, great factory sound system, sunroof, and plenty of room for 5 adults. It has a lot of power and handles great, however, I'm beginning to have issues with the transmission, which I'm finding out from research that they are notorious for. At 149k miles, its beginning to slip at take off. I've maintained this car just as I have every vehicle I've ever owned, with great care and attention. I've always been a fan of Chevy, however, the verdict is still out for me on this particular model when it comes to overall mechanical maintenance overtime. One recommendation is, if you have to buy certain mechanical parts for this particular model, I would suggest good after market parts, I wouldn't put any GM replacement parts on it, they just don't seem to stand up and you'll wind up replacing again, sooner rather than later.

This Car Would Be A Great Addition To A Car Collecton Or Family — Performance- accelerates great, brakes are good, handles good. Build Quality - The engine is a sound build but i have had to get my manifold replaced, and a sensor and harness in my wheel hub is going out, the car is a tank though. Apperance - I have the ls sport, so its an impala with some sporty looks. Its a good looking car for a family sedan and its a comfy ride. The plastic wood finsh gives it a classy look. Cost- For a big 3.8L this car can get some great mpg if you treat it well, ive gotten my car to 30mpg and i avg close to 25mpg. maintenance is reg. Fun- Having a Flowmaster on my car makes me feel like im driving a muscle car. it has great pick up and i have drag raced it a few times and won all my races

Primary Use: Commuting to work
