ProsIt's BIG. Its comfy, and has plenty of power ConsThe price

I Will Buy A Newer One Soon. — I love the flexibility of my Avalanche. I can haul the whole family (6 of us) or fold the seats down and haul full sheets of plywood. I can tow 8,000 pounds with ease. We can comfortably cruise down the highway at 70 mph and still get 20 mpg. Not too bad for a 6,300 pound vehicle. Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsWears many different hats for your needs. Fun and easy to drive. ConsBig ouch at the pump, big truck means tougher to park, cheap plastic gm interior.

Very Versitile Truck, With Great Attributes!! — This was a fun and versitile truck for my needs. Seats 5 large guys comfortably, room in the back for anything, and if it didn't fit, the mid gate and/or back window could come down, and the cover could be removed when needed! Nice interior...though poor/cheap GM quality! Great acceleration considering size...braking however was a little on the poor side! I miss this truck...I don't miss paying for the gas!

ProsTons of fun, love my Black Pearl ConsBlind spots, but I got towing mirrors for those.

One Of The Best Trucks Chevy Every Built. — Tons of power, it is a 8.1L we're talking about. Body cladding makes it look very aggressive and screams Chevy. Fuel economy isn't great, it's not supposed to be with big trucks like this though. This Av 2500 is amazing to drive. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Prosdrive through anything. Consbacking up

Like A Rock — Most awesome truck I've ever drove. It will drive through anything. Took it mudding and had to pull other trucks out with my truck with no problem at all. I love being able to drop the midgate and make it a long bed and I love that you can lock the bed and use it as a very large trunk.

Awesome Drive — I love the look and feel of this truck. Rides nice and has plenty of power for towing the camper.I like the look of the non cladded Avalanche. The clean lines of the trim and bumpers is nicer than the plastic cladding kit. The only downside is after awhile the bed covers start to leak. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Perfect — It's my favorite truck ever, it's perfect, it can be a pickup, an SUV, anything, plus its rugged cladding keeps the paint nice. and you can't beat a chevy. that thing will live longer than i will haha. And the gas mileage isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

ProsSeats 6. Weather proof bed. Mid-gate system. Tows beautifully! Rides ConsGas milage. (why is it the cars I enjoy most have the worst gas milage?) Also, this model did not have leather and the seats made me feel like I needed and extra 2 inches of lift to see over the dash. (I'm 5'9")

This Is One Of Those "should Have Never Sold It" Cars!! — The first generation Avalanche was a love/hate vehicle from a styling standpoint. Personally, I like the body cladding for a few reasons beyond just the looks. Mine was a 2003 model and the cladding did need a little care to maintain it's color (not nearly as bad as the 2002), however, it's durable and gives the truck a tough, finished look because of the cladding on the sails. The ride is fantastic. It does not ride like a traditional truck because it is based on the Suburban platform. The bed and midgate system are amazing. First, because the bed is made using the room BETWEEN the wheel wells, you end up with lockable storage over the wheels. These bins are foam lined and have drain holes at the bottom...makes for a great cooler. Fill it with ice and toss your drinks in. Next, the midgate system is what makes the Avalanche the coolest truck around. If just need a 5' bed...no problem, it's there all the time. Need 8'? Drop the rear seats and open the gate. With the hard covers on over the bed, this makes an 8 foot bed that is climate controlled. Need vertical space? Remove the rear glass and store it in the midgate. Another fun thing to do is to remove just the rear glass, then drop all your windows. It's just about like having a convertible. If you ever need a good mixture of Truck and SUV, this is it. I'll make this simple... I WILL buy another one!

ProsDoes everything I have ever needed it to do. ConsBiggest con is the gas mileage, which wasn't as much of an issue in 2003.

Reliable And Safe — I really like my Avalanche. I had a red one prior to this one that was wrecked. My Avalanche has hauled everything from feed, to groceries, to animals and held up remarkably well. It rides well, has plenty of interior space, is comfortable on long trips and has enough power to do whatever I need. Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsLots of room, will go just about anywhere ConsHard on gas

For Fun — Fun to drive, hard on gas! Lots of power, drives like a big car. Not a big fan of the brakes, not as responsive as a car. Handles great, but hard to get around the city with it, parking etc. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |
