A Great Family Car — I firs test drove this car and was very impressed with the engine power and noticable torque. I have two kids and with thier seats, well it wasn't going to happen in the golf so we decided to buy this one. Very powerfull motor @100500km. Spins in rainy days and snow even with new tires. very comfortable ride with the engine being in the very front of the car you could hardly hear anynoise. I already got a ticket going 160km in a 100km zone. I will keep it for a long time. I just did timing belt and water pump, regular maintenence.. all is great, and sooo much room for everything that is KID involved.

Cons

I'd Buy Another One. — The only thing I don't like about this car is that its a leaf/snow collector. Hood/Trunk openings allow detritus to collect and filter into the Eng/Trunk compartments. Acc/braking/handling are excellent, as is build quality. Love the styling/appearance. It gets 19-20 mpg around town, 25+ on the highway. Its 8-9 yrs. old, so I expect maint. costs to rise, but its been exemplary so far. This car is a gas to drive - especially w/the sunroof open and the Monsoon Stereo blasting.

Pros

German engineered and built! 2.7L V6, Tiptronic, Fully loaded (every option avail. in '02) GLX trim.

Cons

Musty odor that comes and goes (can't get out) ever since moving to the south.

Best Car Ever! — Our first VW that Mollie and I have ever owned. This thing is fast and looks good to boot! Basically, it has the same engine that went into the Audi Avant and has a tiptronic tranny. We bought it used with 32k on the clock and since then have put over 20k of our own miles in almost two years! It's Mollie's daily and then some. We are almost always in the pslut as it gets better gas mileage than my truck and is more comfortable.

Good Daily Driver, But You Will Need Another Car If You Want To Have Fun — Good reliable car, especially for the price, but is frankly boring to drive and one must constantly remind themselves that this car was a practical choice when being constantly passed on the freeway. Also is a Volkswagon and therefore must only be purchased by someone willing to waste an obscene amount of time on routine maintenance.

Will Never Buy A Vw Passat Again. — performance- no good build quality- crap appearance-nice cost of ownership-very expensive fun factor- no fun at all:-( this is the worst car i have ever owned, i have changed almost everything on the car, example, petrol pump, driveshafts, radiator, exhaust, powerbraking system, coils, window mechanism and all the usual things, discs, pads, cambelt. This is a 2002 model gone 140000km faults appearing all the time in the dash, car stops, driveshafts fall off. The car i owned before (escort 1.6) ran for 6 years with usual servicing and no problems.

Pros

Looks amazing, rides amazing, and has many comfortable charactaristcs

Cons

Always in the shop, Always has problems that are very costly to fix, and it runs on premium

Nice To Drive, Horrible To Own. — This car is awesome to drive, its smooth, classy and has awesome features. However it has a lot of coolant leaks, and is just very problematic. It's not a good car to own on a tight budget all I have to say is read your consumer reports. If you like to work on cars, knows someone who works on cars, or have money. This is the car for you.

Pros

Brakes and acceleration are both above par. Amazing interior.

Cons

Although the majority of cars are... expensive to repair.

Good For Now But Ready For Mods :) — I bought it used... so of course there were a few things that needed to be fixed. Overall though its great, handles, brakes, and accelerates like a dream. For most people the appearance would be beyond satisfactory, but as a teenager I look at it and always think about the things I wanna do to it. The interior is awesome, leather seats (very comfortable), wood accents, good quality stock sound system. Recommend to anyone that has a passion for nice cars.

Don't Buy It — I bought the car because of the 4-wheel drive and black leather seats. I should have heeded friends' advice to go with a Japanese make because the Passat has ended up being a clunker. Pile o' parts. Avoid like the plague.

Awesome Car For Family People — i love it because it has good acceleration and speed. tight handling, stops on a dime! it has a small gas tank but it gets awesome mileage. you can drive it almost flat out and still get about 19 mpg. so fun to drive despite being a wagon.

02 Vw Passat Glx 5-spd — Overall the car was a good value, had all the toys that a luxury car would have, but had the price tag of an economy car. Performance is solid, the Germans know how to tune a vehicle. Build quality is good, and the car is fun to drive. The best thing about the car is the styling because people always think its a brand new car even though it's an 02. Overall, it is a good choice for a car.
