ProsThe best car on the road ConsInconvenient to maintain outside of bigger cities

Favorite Car Of All Time — I love everything about this car except the occasional maintenance needed which can be a real hassle in rural Virginia. It's beautiful, fun and makes me feel like a million bucks every time I drive it. What else can you say that about? Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsIt is Magic ConsDrive one if you have to opportunity

I Love It — I bought this on impulse as a daily driver. Very refined interior, love the leather dash. Handles like magic, nice linear power band, AWS and stability control make it the best winter vehicle I have owned. Power gets boring after a while and not much room for mods, Lack of trunk and interior space. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Prosperformance Conskeeping/storing/collecting

Few Words For The 996 Turbo — you're gonna love this baby. drives like a luxury car. feels like a race car. a bit bumpy with its stiff suspension. not quite a head turner but keeps those japs and italians behind your back from the street. just have to drive it twice a week to avoid car problems. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsClassic design and great performance ConsThere is no reason to avoid this car. It is a motoring icon.

Porsche Build The Best Sports Cars — 996 has great performance and handling. The build quality is high which is the cornerstone of Porsche cars generally. I think the styling of the 996 is beautiful and was unduly criticised. Cost of ownership - economical. It's a fun car! Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

2002 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa Review
ProsSolid performance car, built with passion. ConsNot quite as pure as some of the past 911's

996 Targa — The car is a blast to drive, braking and handling are top notch, slightly more power would be nice. Porsche build quality is top notch and the car has yet to have anything other then normal maintenance done to it. The interior is very ergonomic, however the seats lack the support needed in a car of this performance level. Overall this car puts a smile on my face every time!

ProsFast, comfortable, handles well out of the box ConsThe eyeballs

I Love My 996 — Fast, can be driven to track, then to get groceries, and after that a cross-country trip. Been using it to 'commute' to Philadelphia area for work, and has performed without a hitch the entire time I've owned it. Plus, it's bee-yootiful... This was my first-ever new car, and it was well-worth the off-lot depreciation to know every mile was mine! I've owned several Porsches and heard the silliness about air-cooled versus water-cooled (I have examples of each), and it's just that... silliness. I do have to agree somewhat with the question of 996 'eyeballs', but at least mine has the later fried-eggs and not the Boxster 'droopy eyes'.

ProsHandling ConsNONE

Porsche Is The Best! — I LOVE IT!!! BEST Performance – acceleration, braking, handling RMS is known problem in 996 version Cost of Ownership – High. All parts are made in germany and cost 3-4X of the usual cars. Takes ONLY premium gas and not too good on milage.. BUT WHO CARES??? Fun Factor- NO LIMITS - I still havent pushed the limits of this car .. but I can take a U-turn at 40mph with not a single squeek or screech .. thats what the Porsche engineering is..

ProsBest of both worlds....not a cab and not just a coupe! ConsClutch plate, brakes & disks as well as tyres only lasted 15,000km

Cool Car! — One of the coolest cars I've ever owned. Fast, elegant and a brilliant everyday drive! I've got one of the few that doesn't rattle but the wind noise at high speed is a bit rough. Cost of ownership a little bit high! Fantastic on the road and fun on the track. |
