bought one because:

I have owned this car since it was new in 2002. I chose this car when I was a teen. As a teen, I didn't want a used car. I started doing research on where car parts and cars were made. 95% of Honda oem parts were made in the united states. The car was designed and made in the United States. At that point in time, no other USA based car company was even coming close. Ford,Chevrolet, and Dodge at the time had been making cars and parts in other countries. If I was going to buy a car, I wanted my money to go back into the economy of working USA citizens. I was also the first in my family to take a leap into buying a Japanese American car. I waited patiently for the engine to break in. I had the full warranty. I made a tough decision. If the car was a lemon. I was going to find out. I pushed the car hard every time I got in it. It is a slow car, but take it on the back roads and it does pretty damn good. The car has been parked outside its entire existence. It has only been in a garage for maintenance. I have changed the oil every 3000 miles. I started using full synthetic motor oil since 2006. I didn't drive often. I always had a job close to where I live. Its first break down came at 40,000 miles. which happen to be ten years later when the warranty had expired. Worn down timing belt broke from sitting outside. That was the timing belt manufacturers fault for not making a better part. Honda's fault for not designing a motor to prevent valves from getting bent from the timing belt breaking. It did cost me money. but I figured if that was the only problem so far. I needed to give the car a second chance. NOTE to anyone buying a more current car. This is not really a problem anymore. Due to the fact that all car manufacturers have gone to timing chains. END NOTE. So far, this car has been holding out pretty good. There are minor flaws. If you wanted to buy a used one, purchase the manual. The automatic stick does not stay in gear very well. You can push (automatic stick) it around without using the trigger. Engine is very solid. I just passed 100,000 miles. A few weeks ago, I took the car on I81 north through the mountain pass and hit 118 going down steep hills. I would suggest getting good quality tires. Brakes work fine, however I have noticed that my brake petal has quite a bit of travel before it starts working. Its been that way since I bought the car new. I have looked into it. There are no air leaks in the break lines. My car did not come with abs. I would rely more on the e-brake than my foot-brake. cheap tires came from the manufacturer. Car does not like to stop on cheap tires. I have cracked the bumper twice, and it has been replaced. I have tagged bumpers, but no collision. car handles great. Thinking about upgrading the suspension with fortune auto coil-overs. I replaced the rusty steelie rims with 17 inch spec1 spt5 rims. and replaced the tires with Hankook ventus2noble tires. still rides smooth on slimmer/stiffer 45r sidewalls. The most fun you can have is on the back roads. There are always those wide open left hand turns that you can pull off a slow scandiflick from about 80mph. A lot of vibration from McPherson struts, but agile and easy to control. When the rear end kicks out it will always lose 30-40mph through the turn. I really wish they had stuck with the older suspension-(2001 and back). My gas mileage was not something I was worried about until after the warranty ran out. I have slowed down and tried to see how much money it could save me. I had a well paying job 45 miles away from where I lived. I was able to get at most 50mpg. Learned something from http://ecomodder.com/. But it was a snails pace. I was later laid off by the government. The car is very roomy. I had no problems falling asleep in it while unemployed. The interior did very well. No creaks, cracks, or rattles. Rear speakers did not last more than ten years. The door speakers still work fine. All speakers will be replaced soon. I think the rear speakers died from heat exposure. I think its time to tint the windows. Don't buy headlights from Walmart, cheap Sylvania lights only last half a year. It is now July 29th, 2015. I now have a class A CDL. I am about to install a dual bypass oil filter. I don't want to crawl under the car anymore to change the oil. Relocating where I can change the oil every 15,000 miles or more. I figure the car should get very high miles. Possibly 500,000 miles or more. Its 2015, and engineers still haven't figured out how to make it easier to change oil on cars. I am not a bad driver. The past ten + years I have lived in a high traffic area. My errors did cost me money. My errors were from driving slow in traffic and idiots slamming on breaks in front of me. I have only cut one person off in my Honda civic. He was being a idiot and deserved it. It takes a while to learn how to get around traffic. The trick is to know all the back roads.

10k — Fast acceleration, good braking with slotted rots, after market gear needs to be installed proffesionally because if not it will break, very dun to drive very zippy, gets a clean forty miles to the gallon on the 1.7 liter 4 banger

Pros

Practical/Reliable & Good Price and MPG & light weight car with good engine for mods

Cons

Performance is pretty bad due to lack of HP/Torque & Its not a real looker

2002 Honda Civic — Honda Civic THE VERDICT: PERFORMANCE is pretty crappy considering the Hp/torque, acceleration, and Top speed pretty much suck. Its brakes and Handling are ok. But its Engine is EXTREMELY modifiable and it is a lightweight car which is perfect for mods. ROAD it has ok luxuries and it looks alright enough to take a chick out but it wont turn any heads. It is a good price with good mpg, and tough enough for street racing (if it was actually fast). But its best feature is that it is REALLY practical and reliable. Only 2 things survie Nuclear War: Cockroaches and Honda V-tec engines.

I <3 7-gens — Everything about this car is great. It's looks, its reliability, everything. The 5 speed M/T is solid, smooth when with the ladies and quick when with the guys. The only thing lacking is power. The steering is wonderful, great oversteer for drifting and some unfortunate noticable understeer at speed and slippery roads (expected). ~30 mpg easily.
