Fun Everyday Car — Highly recommend to upgrade ECU and exhaust...mine Has Revo Stage 2 upgrades, fender mount cold air, 4 Bar fuel pressure regulator, Stratesphere Diverter valve, Eurospeed 2' downpipe and Magna Flow exhaust. It puts HP up to around 245 at 16-18lbs of boost...a lot of power for a 4cylinder. Prior to upgrades I had a lot of ECU problems, now just the typical coil pack blowing now and then. Plus I get 28-30mpg

Pros

it burns 2nd and chirps 3rd

Cons

its exspensive to maintain

I Absolutley Love It — the VR6 is a beastly 6 cyl motor and i love it. it has the most beautiful undertone and a snotty mean heart throne. my car is awsome. its pretty stock except for a neuspeed perf. chip, remus axle back exhaust, ported swiss intake box, and a badgeless grill.

Cons

Vw Jetta 2001 — The best car ever!! Will never buy a North American car as long as I can afford it...Gas can be a bit pricey when I put the pedal to the metal but it is worth it because she goes!!

Cons

Jetta — Not to bad performance but steeply declined. Needed repairs from about the day i got it used. Not very good gas mileage and needed alot of maintence. It is a pretty fun car to drive because it has good handling.

Pros

VR6 sound, smooth power delivery, looks, nice highway manners, the car just loves cruising at 85mph+

Cons

Reliability, outright bad cornering in stock form, high parts cost, VW price gouging, bad depreciation

Love The Vr6, Hate The Build Quality — I had a love/hate relationship with this car. Until I owned my Audi A4 after Jetta, the Jetta was the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned, but the Audi took that crown in very short order once I owned it. I love the Vr6 engine, let me be very clear on that. This is a brilliant engine, torque everywhere, ultra flat powerband, feels like it has much more power than it actually does, and it will outright beat any competing model of car with similar power- with only bolt on modifications, I was able to easily beat an older Mustang GT ( maybe a 2000 ish model ) to 100mph. In stock form, the handling leaves much to be desired, it was floaty and understeered badly, the stock brakes are also nothing special. Once modified with Koni Coilovers, Neuspeed swaybars, and upgraded brakes though, the handling was wonderful, and the ride quality nearly stock. The car did break often, the automatic transmission died at 80k miles, i opted to replace it with a 6 speed gearbox setup out of a wrecked 04 GTI with the 24 valve Vr6, that gearbox was very strong and lasted the rest of the life of the car easily, the custom conversion also cost me less including labor, than buying a remanufactured new automatic gearbox from the dealership, without labor. The engine suffered constant mass airflow sensor failures and coilpack failures- both very expensive parts from VW at about $350 each, if you shop around online you can find the coilpack for about $260, and the MAF sensor is the same as the 2.0 liter 4cyl VW, so you can pick up that sensor for $50 bucks, and swap it into the housing for the VR6, and save about $300- during 4 years of ownership i had to replace this sensor about 5 times however, so be warned. The list of modifications i did to this car was extensive, basically after a while of replacing broken items with stock parts from the dealership, i started replacing any item that broke with a better aftermarket alternative- after 4 years of this, my car was almost completely aftermarket, that shows you how much this car breaks. The sound of the VR6 is amazing once you add an intake and exhaust, sounds like a cigarette boat, the sound is addictive, and will make you want to keep dumping money into the massive money pit that all VW products eventually become. Would I own another one? Probably yes, but only if purchased at rock bottom prices, i would never spend over $5000 on one.

Pros

German engineering.....

Cons

Fixing German engineering....

Black 2001 Vw Jetta 1.8t — My Jetta has a 3" turboback exhaust that is a beast at wide open trottle. I just love the way its sounds when i stomp on it. I have some upgraded cross drilled rotors, but they are nothing special. Split Second boost controller turns up the boost when I need the extra power. There are patec coilovers installed that lower the car quite a bit, I can only fit one finger between the wheel and the fender both front and back. Spacers push the back wheels out to give it a more aggressive look. Rear sway bar keeps the car on the ground while taking hard corners. Stg 1 clutch transfer most of the power to the wheels. HID's keep the road lite up nicely while drving at night. It's a fun car to drive but expensive to maintain, as with many german engineered cars.

Pros

Cons

none

2001 Vw Jetta Glx Vr6 — Handles well; accelerates well (with added chip & cold air intake unit); brakes well especially around corners. Def go with the vr6, that engine is by far VWs best. Build quality is superior to most american built cars..but still could be better. The interior is sweet and the Bose system is pretty nice as well. I love the black on black leather look too. Overall its a fun car to drive. I'd suggest upgrading the tail lights and headlights, its a much better look. And the cold air intake unit adds that extra umph when you floor it. Also, debadging makes the ass end look so much better.
