2001 Toyota RAV4 Base 4WD Review
ProsHandling in adverse conditions. Cheap on fuel and maintenance. Fits small family perfectly. Over 140,000 miles when we sold it and still running strong, very reliable. ConsRoad noise was a bit loud in the cab. The 4 cylinder lacked power going up very long, steep hills but still able to maintain 55mph.

The Rav4 Always Impressed Me. — If you've ever thought about owning one get down to a dealer and test drive one. You will be impressed with the amount of space they pack into that small SUV. You'll also find that it handles well. Go for the 6cylinder if you'll need the extra power, but you might find the 4cyl sufficient like I did. They are not for extreme off road but can handle just about anything you throw at them on pavement or dirt. We took it Christmas tree hunting one year (only 4inches of snow) and didn't have a problem on the poorly maintained forest roads. All in all, one of my favorite vehicles ever. ProsAll-around excellence (fun to drive, good looking, reliable, comfortable, fuel efficient, etc.) ConsThe rear gate "pops" everytime you open/close it

Love My Rav! — Surprisingly fun to drive: light steering with good feedback, smooth 5-speed stick, good clutch, peppy acceleration, great brakes, 4wd. Fresh looks inside and out. And of course, bullet-proof reliability. And fuel effecient (avg 24-25). i totally recommend this car! Drive one, you'll understand :)

Pros28 mpg around town; handles well except in deep snow. ConsLow weekly use should not require wheel rotor replacement at 60K. Jerky 1st to 2nd gear. Rear seats must be manually removed. Noisy interior even on highway. Covered access to battery terminals a hindrance.

Former Cougar Owner; First Small Suv 2001 Rav4 — Still getting used to limited front seat space. Noisy engine on highway or with R.window down. Stiff ride. Latest R-trip 900 miles netted 34-35 mpg; 4 cyl.engine, 2WD, 5 stick-shift. Jerky 1st gear to 2nd. Just passed 60K miles, no daily job miles, but told wheel rotors are showing rust w/recommended front replacement est.$300. Strikes me as big negative since never had this problem with Ford/Merc's in 40 yrs. Orig. tires in snowstorm last winter, didn't tread inclines well. Anyone else??? ProsBeginners Car, Small, Adaptable, High Suspension Clearance. ConsNot a race car. Lower cruse speed of 65 to actually be gas economic on highway.

Beginner Car That You Can Not Let Go. — Sporty four cylinder that has power. Has RPM gauge. No ABS. Handling has a little resistance but turns well. Can attempt drifts or has controlled accelerated turning. Four gears automatic and high RPM engine 65mph is under 2.5k RPM. Front wheel drive. Smaller then a sedan and shorter then a convertible but is taller, roomier with utility value. Don't know but it is around the 9000-16000 price range. For a good one more then 14000. 35 MPG ave highway. So easy to drive because of great visibility and compact with four doors interior bigger then a BMW 7 series with more seating space. Did I mention that it has semi recline-able back seats? Primary Use: Family transportation

Does The Job, Nothing I Hate About It. Leather Seats Great With Kids, Just Wipe Clean. — Excellent. I am happy with it, does as a runner to the stables with bales of shavings in the back, back seat between headrest great saddle rack, and backseat headrests make good bridle hangars. Chloe takes up all of back seat with her stuff and carseat. Me and puppy up front. It also has x2 12v plugs one in boot which is handy so i can plug dvd in for her and free's up the ones at front for ipod and phone charger. |
