2001 Toyota Corolla S Review
ProsOwnership experience ConsStereo, cupholders, handling at the limits
40
Hassle-free Fun — White 2001 Toyota Corolla S with black interior and 5- speed manual transmission. Bought new, and it now has about 99K miles. Surprisingly fun to drive with good ride quality. Steering becomes loose at the limits of adhesion, but feels natural and progressive up to 8/10ths, brakes feel great, shifter isn't quite Honda snick-snick but still very easy to operate. Seats are comfortable. Ergonomics are great, with one notable exception--the three cupholders are mediocre. The one cupholder in the rear is mounted on the center console, and is useless--so shallow, drinks will fly out over moderate cornering or bumps, and in the front, larger drinks (e.g. medium sized fountain drinks) will block access to the console and get in the way of the shifter. Audio system is so-so. Fit is great for the class and year, finish is about better than midpack, reliability is stellar--I have not had a single issue that needed a trip to the dealership, only performed routine maintenance and accident repairs. And being an economy car, any maintenance and repairs are cheap. I average about 32 mpg in the city and 38-40 on the highway. Road and wind noise are moderate. Engine isn't quite BMW I6 creamy, but it's relatively smooth. Overall, highly recommended. Fun to drive, cheap and hassle-free to operate. What more could one ask for?

ProsReliable, Roomy,Quiet, Good gas mileage (13 km per litre), realatvly fun to drive ConsNot exactly a head turner without a bodykit and custom paint job

As Reliable As A Stallion — The thing i love most about this car is that reliable. Even now 7 years later, still works with out a glitch and we have yet to do any major repairs. The biggest problem that i've had with the car is when a squirrel built a nest in the radiator grill. Its a 1.4 Ltr Petrol engine. Does 0-60 mph in bout 6-7 seconds. Nothin fancy but the reliability and comfort is spot on for any car in its class. And it isnt expensive either. Once i start college i hope to trick it out with sum after market parts. Brakes extremely well. Wont take coners at 100 mph but it handles quite well. Its a decent looking car and looks even better with a body kit.

Prosgreat gas mileage, compact to fit in all parking spots and cute! Consnot the best on uphill acceleration

The Best Corolla Ever :] — i absolutely love my car, it has been through everything with me given it was my first car which i still drive! It is great on gas too, I get around 30-42 mpg depending on city or freeway miles. I have it lowered with intake and exhaust as well as a killer sound system! It had a minor tranny leak right out of the factory but that was fixed with no issues since with regular maintenance!

Prosexcellent gas mileage; easy to maneuver; tight turning radius; sticks to the road Consacceleration isn't the best; small trunk (only able to fit 2 12's and 2 8's); interior is very susceptible to sunbleaching and warping in extreme heat.

Great On Gas; Good On Looks. — The 2001 TOyota Corolla was built in a California plant by American workers. A reliable car with a small, but fairly peppy 1.8L VVTI engine, getting as high (from personal experience) as 41 mpg. The paint is in excellent shape, and it's fairly easy to repair. Most components are easily accesible under the hood, or underneath the car. Maintenance and upkeep are typical of any Toyota (tires, oil changes, brakes, etc), with minor need for major repairs. I've driven this car for about two years, purchased with 80,000 miles, it now has over 132,000 and has only had a Mass Airflow Sensor go bad, but still ran even then (just hard, and idle was rough). Body style was only out for two years, giving it a more unique look. Would make an excellent ricer car, or sleeper.

Prosgas mileage, inexpensive, dependable ConsNot to sporty, kind of small

Great Little Car — Great little car. Not the fastest, not the prettiest, not the biggest, but it is always a dependable means of transportation. The inexpensive cars a design for daily use in commuting. They perform there tasks very well. Mine started out as a program car and was then placed on a rural mail route, by my Mom, with 75 miles of mostly dirt roads. If you just keep these little guys serviced and do your routine maintenance, your will get years of loyal service. I am currently showing 178,000 and would take it anywhere.

Prosgood gas mileage, not hideous, type s!, easy maintenance, didn't kill me when i crashed it Consnot very powerful, paint not very receptive to chalk drawings, cracked under pressure

All Around Average, But I'd Do It Again. — All around average car. It got me from point A to point B, but there was nothing too special about it. It had great handling, semi-decent power, good suspension, and got good gas mileage (it was only $25 to fill up the tank!!!). I drove it from San Diego to Los Angeles and back several times and from San Diego to San Francisco and back with no problems. Very little maintenance needed in the year and a half I owned it, just the regular oil changes and new brake pads. It was a pretty decent looking car too. I liked the interior especially. Lots of black with red stitching and details, better than average looking dashboard. I'm pretty positive I'd still have it now if I hadn't totaled it.

Accident Waiting To Happen — Accident waiting to happen, the entire car was plastic, it was cheaply made, decent gas mileage, dont trust the gas light, few maintanance repairs, ugly car, not a northern car as it does horrible in the snow, heat sucked and so did the a/c, and with that nuff said

My Whitebeauty! — Well, there is nothing that upsets me about the car apart from the fact that it only gets upto 110 MPH :( .... way too low for my liking :p Having said that, must say that the singapore model version of the same maker really flies n trust me I mean it when i say dis Apart from the speed, the car is near perfect in build quality, driving wise, its well balanced at high speeds n doesn't oversteer in the corners...real fun to drive! |
