Great Car — Performance was great... the engine had a lot of miles but, what do you want for a used car Appearance - few cigarette burns in the seats but otherwise cherry inside and out Cost of Ownership- The V6 is a tad thirsty when it's used everyday Fun Factor - Great car Overall... Miss it a lot

Pros

great gas mileage, great overall family car

Cons

trunk space is small, rear seats should fold down but doesn't,

Great Car — I would like to be able to fold down the rear seats for added trunk space but otherwise storage and inside passenger room is comfortable. I would recommend this car, as I've owed two other grand ams before. The maintenance can be a bit pricey at times however which takes away from a higher review.

Pontiac — I NEED MORE POWER, but for a 4 cyl this car is awesome, id say its looks and power is above most 4 cyls, and I highly like the interior, hope to move up to a firebird sometime, but pontiacs are a good make in general ive shifted it manually before, lotta fun and beating rice in a 4 door is awesome lo

Pros

nice space, lots of trunk room, sporty yet great in bad conditions, can fit in with the crowd or can be an eye poper it all depends on what you do to it and its fairly easy to customize, and engine is very dependable never had to do any out of the ordinary maintenance.

Cons

the 2001 models have a security issue which isnt easy to perminently fix but there is an easy temporary fix which gets annoying sometimes but it works

Pontiac Grand Am Review — its an inexpensive reliable yet sporty car with good gas mileage and is easy to customize and give that unique look a lot of people desire anymore. all in all i think its really nice for a first car or for someone looking to have a decent ride and stay in budget.

My Baby — What can I say about this car, I love it. This is the first car I've ever purchased from a dealership. I bought her in 2006, with only 9,998 miles on the ticker. She's already 5 years old!!!!! The previous owner was a GM executive and had a company vehicle so the Grand Am was his weekend cruiser!!! But anyways, The picture I posted above is from the day I bought her, she looks quite a bit different now. She's got a PONTIAC banner across the windshield, windows are tinted, 20% in the front, 5% on all the back windows. I used to have a 3.5 inch fiberglass cowl induction hood on her too but it got some nasty cracks in it over the winter so I had to get rid of that. She's a strong performer, I've done a handful of beautiful powerbrakes with her, locking up the e-brake on a hill of course lol. but yeah, the only complaint I have with the car is the fact that there is about a million of them on the road at any given time, but there is a good aftermaket out there for these cars so making one unique isn't too hard.

Pros

Good base design.

Cons

Expensive aftermarket.

Grand Am Gt1 — In the performance department, the Grand Am is fair. It's acceleration is enough to make the drive exciting. Braking is less than ideal due to poor caliper design. That can be remedied with small but efficient part upgrades. Handling is somewhat sluggish for the car's size and weight, but again aftermarket provides a noticeable improvement in this area. The build quality for these cars is exceptional because of its perceived market. While in production it took a large portion of the midsized market. To accomplish this it needed to last. The appearance of the vehicle varies through the models, with the GT model being the sleekest. With some small modifications it can be a very smooth sleek looking vehicle. As far as cost of ownership goes, there are a few maintenance issues that these cars seem to need on a regular basis. However once properly attended to, the car performs well. These cars are fun to drive, simple to work on, and they have a larger fan base than publicly known.

Love These Cars! Have Owned Two! — I've owned two. First one was a silver 01 SE coupe 2.4L. Ran well and lasted me 6years and is still running but I sold it to buy another Grand Am. I bought it used and put over 100k on it. It started having small problems here and there like any other car after high mileage and old age. I maintained it well, I got my moneys worth out of it and it was/still is a great car. The one I drive now is an 01 jet black GT1 Coupe, 75th anniversary edition. I got it for an amazing deal and its in great shape with low miles. Its twice as sharp. The package you get makes a good difference. After owning both theres not question I like the 3.4L better. Has great power and still gets great mpg. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY CAR!!

Pros

Decent MPG, right size for me, daughter's car seat looks good in back, don't worry much about it getting stolen, A/C, crank windows

Cons

Electrical problems, no options, rear seats don't fold down, ugly spoiler, crank windows

Sufficient Personal Transportation Appliance — Pontiac, the "Excitement Division" of GM, produced a mediocre car in the 2001 Grand Am. The only excitement is the tacked-on plastic ribs on the side.

Pros

Solid engine and transmission, good gas milleage, and roomy for a mid-size sedan.

Cons

I4 engine too big for great MPG and too small for great HP/MPH. Interior build quality

35

It Was My First Car — I think that this car is solid. I enjoyed it while I had it. The 2.4l DOHC I4 is solid and runs well. However, the interior build quality is terrible. It is cheap and reminds me of motel quality carpet. It is obvious that the majority of the build cost was put into the drivetrain. Even though it is FWD, it is still possible to wrech and do your own repairs. You just have to be more careful and have a variety of tools.
