Get One! — This is my 3rd Grand AM, never had a problem with a single one. This car has great acceleration, it's good on gas, great apperance, lots of custom parts available, easy to maintain, handles well, very safe, & all around a very good car. Drive one! Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros2.4 engine is peppy, good mileage ConsMouldings don't look like they belong on the car!

Good Car For The Money! — Pontiac has delivered an all around solid car. The 2.4 is a peppy motor, that delivers excellent performance throughout the power band. The Getrag 5 speed has light, short throws, with a light clutch. Handles well, though the car is a little heavy, with little body roll. Power steering is speed-sensitive, but is plagued with the same issue as many other GM products; the steering is rather 'numb', and does not have a good 'on-center' feel. The only thing aesthetically I don't like about the car is the ugly mouldings down each side of the car; the '03 and up models have done without them, and look much better. Overall, it's a good car. Good performance, and good mileage (I usually will get 4-500km per tank), however with gas at $1.22 a liter, a fill from dead empty will set you back around $60.

None — After putting on new tires, 3 front bearings, a tie rod, 4 sets of pads and 2 rotors; I found out the calipers were shot, the power steering was hemorrhaging fluid, and the transmission had a leak. Oh yeah, the cylinder head had a little leak as well. It was a great ride, but I had to let it go. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Best Car To Drive If You're Looking For A Sporty Look. — This car picks up quicker than any other similar car I've driven. Breaking is outstanding and it hasn't given me any issues with handling. This car only needed an O2 sensor that was damaged by a previous owner. I've obviously done some work to the outside (i.e. - projector headlights & cowl induction hood.) Gas mileage on this car is great even with running air conditioning if you drive it right. The only maintenance this car requires is standard for any car (i.e. oil change, breaks.) This car has all in all been a joy to drive. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Get One! — I love this car! I've had 3 and every one worked top notch, never had a problem with one. They have fast acceleration, great gas milage, good looks, and variety of custom parts! I'm looking to get a 03' Grand Am GT Ram Air V6 next! Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

It Was A Good Buy, I Love The Pontiac Line Of Cars. — The performance is quite good, good handling, nice acceleration, breaking is good too. It was build well, a few problems with sensors, that's about it. It has an aggressive stance, nice allow rims, a stylish spoiler, and a great stock body kit. Great gas mileage, very low maintenence cost. Definitely fun to drive...do just a little modification to add a little horsepower, and bam...you got yourself a fun sports car. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsLook, Milage, Performance Consone or two small dings, dirty floormats

Grand Am Review — *Performance Re-built transmission so first gear is rough at full throttle, but other gears shift like a dream. Acceleration is above average. Handles very well also. Fun car to drive. 3.4L engine and ram air intake give the car a proclaimed 175 hp and 200 trq. But I believe the pover to the wheels is less than that. *Build Quality Like I said re-built transmission was the worst of all repairs done. But other things have gone wrong mostly due to my driving. For a daily driver very solid car. If you are going to put the petal to the floor every once and a while, it's average. Other repairs have been a valve from my engine coolant was leaking. Melted transmission gears. *Appearence Fantastic looking car, although I prefer coupes. The front end is gorgeous to me but the back end isn't as pretty to me.I have twenty inch Dropstar DS05 rims that I put on in the summer.

My Baby — What can I say about this car, I love it. This is the first car I've ever purchased from a dealership. I bought her in 2006, with only 9,998 miles on the ticker. She's already 5 years old!!!!! The previous owner was a GM executive and had a company vehicle so the Grand Am was his weekend cruiser!!! But anyways, The picture I posted above is from the day I bought her, she looks quite a bit different now. She's got a PONTIAC banner across the windshield, windows are tinted, 20% in the front, 5% on all the back windows. I used to have a 3.5 inch fiberglass cowl induction hood on her too but it got some nasty cracks in it over the winter so I had to get rid of that. She's a strong performer, I've done a handful of beautiful powerbrakes with her, locking up the e-brake on a hill of course lol. but yeah, the only complaint I have with the car is the fact that there is about a million of them on the road at any given time, but there is a good aftermaket out there for these cars so making one unique isn't too hard.

ProsSolid engine and transmission, good gas milleage, and roomy for a mid-size sedan. ConsI4 engine too big for great MPG and too small for great HP/MPH. Interior build quality
35
It Was My First Car — I think that this car is solid. I enjoyed it while I had it. The 2.4l DOHC I4 is solid and runs well. However, the interior build quality is terrible. It is cheap and reminds me of motel quality carpet. It is obvious that the majority of the build cost was put into the drivetrain. Even though it is FWD, it is still possible to wrech and do your own repairs. You just have to be more careful and have a variety of tools. |
