2001 Nissan Xterra XE V6 4WD Review
ProsExcellent off roading machine, solid ride, manual 4x4 shift, full size spare, only about $100.00 in non PM work paid out in 7 years, towing is excellent! ConsThis year was greatly under powered, mileage, Illinois has very few off road areas. A little cramped on family trips with 2 kids.

2001 Nissan Xterra 4x4 — This is a solid truck that is excellent off road, even stock. Even though it is under powered at 170 HP it still holds its own. Gearing is just right. It still has the manual 4x4 shift rather than the push button. It has decent cargo space with and almost 0 lip rear opening.

ProsReliable, fun, practical, safe, capable. ConsNot very comfortable, low gas milage, slow acceleration.

Great College Car!! — Great Car! Its road manners are acceptable, but its no crossover or sedan. Off road is amazing and very capable. Its a bit of a gas guzzler and its not much of an accelerator. I have had no mechanical problems with it. The styling is appropriate and expressive of its off road prowess. The interior is plain, but practical. The front seats are not very comfortable, and there are very few controls for the seats. Over all I love it, but I am looking for an upgrade after it passes the 200,000 mile mark. Right now its at 135,000. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

ProsDependable. ConsPoor gas milage.

Great For The Price. — Most reliable vehicle. Small motor moving mid-sized suv so bad gas mileage. No frills car...very basic options. Poorly designed sunroof (not airtight). Roomy and comfortable interior. Feels like a tank. Handles great. Put many miles on it recently and have had no mechanical or body problems. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Excellent Vehicle For Small Family, Or Weekend Offroader — I love the low torque of the Xterra, it is excellent offroad from the factory, but if you are thinking of more the 3 inch lift is definitely a worth while option. A little bit under powered and runs at high RPM`s on freeway but no issues other than typical wear and tear at 120000 miles. Primary Use: Family transportation

If Gas Wasn't So High I Would Buy Another One! — This car is perfect for someone living in a mountain town! This car is awesome in the snow, you will never have to worry about getting stuck or not getting to work. I have packed 5 people, 2 dogs and all of our ski gear numerous times a year for ski trips and its a perfect but tight fit. The elevated rear seats are also a nice touch! Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Cool Soccer Mom Suv — I love it's versitility. The SUV sounds great with the cold air intake and exhaust baffle removed. The vehicle is great in the snow and off road. It's looks maybe rugid but the interor is simple. I wish I had another one. Primary Use: Family transportation

Best Vehicle I Have Ever Owned — There is a small blind spot on drivers side, need to turn your head and look. ;) Very safe vehicle, looks great, has held up great through the years, did everything I needed it to, hauled bikes, four wheelers and the canoe. Got me to work and back through the snow easily! Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsMoon roof, 6-disc changer, towing package, roof rack ConsHas slow oil leak, gas milage typical of an SUV

It's Fun To Drive!!! — This car is great to drive for fun or for going to work. It has had to only have maintenance work such as a new battery, new tires, new breaks. It has never broken down, and I don't think it ever will. It has always been reliable. Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsSimple design, easily maintained, reliable Consgas mileage, rust

The Sexterra — The Xterra is definately a very nice vehicle. It has just enough acceleration for a vehicle of it's size. It is very top heavy and you can feel a gust of wind easily and the rack on top makes some loud wind noise for the inside. In 4-wheel drive though it will just about go anywhere. I love the simple dashboard design. Short sweet and to the point and easy to operate. To be an SUV it has a nice sporty exterior. the back seats are actually elevated a little like in a theater so even the back passengers can be comfortable and see. The only issues really are the rust spots that come up along the body below the doors and the gas mileage. Gets abuot 13 city 15 highway and when gas was almost 4 dollars it took $60 bucks to fill it up for just 3 days. It is a very reliable vehicle. Cranks every time I jump in. IIt is fun in the mud, dirt, snow, pavement, wherever it can go. Primary Use: Commuting to work |
