2001 Mitsubishi Mirage ES Review
ProsExceptional gas mileage (with conservative driving, though that's not really my style) with my best recorded MPG being 38.1 and my longest range on a full tank (12.4 gal capacity, excluding 0.8 gal reserve) bringing me just barely over 400 miles. The four 6.5 in. speakers produce better than average sound quality for a stock stereo package in a compact economy sedan. The handling is nimble enough to let you veer out of the way of the neighbor's dog, but i wouldn't go pulling any stunts just yet. Acceleration is above average considering this car's dollar-for-dollar competition. ConsThe interior leaves a lot to be desired, but who am I kidding - this isn't your daddy's Lexus. You may find yourself kicking the nearest wall when your battery is removed during a tune-up and you need to get the stereo security code from the dealership for a rip-off price of about $42, and you may wonder why that bumper cover made solely of plastic will cost you in the range of $230-250 PLUS the matching paint job. Cabin can be a little noisy on the road at high speeds. I wouldn't recommend actually trying to fit 5 full-sized adults into this car, but it can be done.

This Car Has Never Let Me Down! — Alright, so I'll admit it - I bought this car out of desperation with only 4 hours on my side and it was between that, a '00 Corolla or a Geo. Considering the Corolla and Geo have exactly the same engine(only one was more expensive than the other - guess which one!), I had an obvious choice in front of me with a 1.8L 4cyl getting more than decent MPG ranging from 26 city - 32 hwy, listed. It was a rental before I bought it in 2003, with only 16,389 miles on it and I honestly didn't expect it to hold up long enough for me to pay it off. So, the real question: Would I have made the same decision all over again? You bet your sweet ass. I have had this car for 4 years and 6 months and single-handedly put well over 111,000 miles on it, but it has yet to disappoint me. I take good care of my vehicles and this one proves the Car-ma Theory - "Routine maintenance rewards routine reliability." I've had to re-charge the battery, replace the headlights, do a few extra brake jobs and install some new sparks, but other than that, I haven't invested a single cent over average maintenance costs. |

ProsLight, quirky and with the right sources you can build it up to be quick and nice. ConsIt's comparable is the Civic.

Light, Quirky And You Can Build It Up To Be Quick And Nice. Lot's Of Jdm Parts Available. — It's light and easy to drive. The stock SOHC 1.8L is matched to the same year Civic's. What's great about this motor is that in other countries it was offered in a DOHC and DOHC Turbo and its a direct head swap...wider power band, more hp stock and more tuner friendly. The car was made to compete with the Civic so build quality is about the same. Cost me 1,500 used and well worth it especially if you are a Mitsubishi fan. A lot of things can be done to this car and its an under dog car. Primary Use: Commuting to work |

ProsSmall, Economic, Fun ConsSlow

Its Small, Its Good On Fuel, Its Cheap And Its Pretty Much Only Owned By Good Looking Chicks. — Acceleration is horrible but it does the job. Test out the brakes on a track and they'll fail quickly. Build quality is good but still plastic. After 6 years there's lots of rattles. It can look fantastic if you look after it and are tactful with any options. Its great on fuel if you know how to drive and after 120,000 km it still feels like new. Revs out very nicely and still can put a smile on your face. |

Ok Little Car — This car is definately a value car. It has descent performance, descent room in the front (the back is a different story) I'm 6' 1" and can comfortably drive this car. Build quality is alright. It is not the most solid feeling car out there but it requires little maintanence (clutch has 185,000 miles on it and doesn't need replaced yet) Primary Use: Commuting to work |

Great Car. — this car has great acceleration but lacks on top speed. The braking and handling are amazing. this car is well bulit and functions great. needs very little repairs. the outside looks good and so dose the inside but i dont like the upholstery. this car gets about 30 mpg. this car is very fun to drive on back roads and at stop lights. if u get it. this car is mildly modified though it has a full 4-2-1 2.5" racing exhaust, weapon-r intake, adjustable fuel press reg., high press vacuum hoses. and 2x12 w0 jl with a 250 watt amp. soon the entire outside will be fully redone. also stage 2 cam and cam gear and a reprogrammed ecu. |

Buy It — Good acceleration when the car is empty. Build Quality is awesome on outside, interior leaves some for desire. Great aesthetics but as with most of these small cars they beg for the benefits of lowered suspension both for looks and handling. Very cheap to own apart from body repairs and a very fun car to drive Primary Use: Commuting to work |

2001 Mitsubishi Mirage Ls Coupe — Performance: its pretty quick right off the line. I just bought it less than a week ago and am waiting to register it so i haven't touched 5th gear yet. I wish it was a little quicker, that way reviews could stop saying it cant compete with leaders in its class(Jetta and Golf) but i bought this at a fraction of one of those. Quality: Fairly well build. Everything is smooth looking.. Definately fun to drive. I bought the 5 speed with a sun roof and its perfect. Like i said, i wish it could blow the doors off the VW's but eventually ill get it there. |

01 Mitsu Mirage — surprisingly this car actually had great acceleration. of course it got great gas mileage, and it is a very low maintenance car. i drove it for a year and didn't do any maintenance to it. appearance was good because it looks like the lancer if you put the evo body kit on it. and it is very fun to drive |
