Finally, a semi-affordable Benz based on the flagship S-class. The 2001 Mercedes Benz C240 is a bit smaller and less powerful, but certainly not stripped down.
It has a 2.6-liter, V6, 18-valve engine that gives 168 ponies, but many suggest that the power is more than adequate, especially when sticking with the 6-speed manual transmission instead of moving up to the 5-speed automatic one. It also has an independent front suspension, perhaps a reason for the remarkably smooth, quiet, and delightful ride.
Automatic climate control, leather and wood, the really cool integrated, universal garage opener are all standard. There are even mirrors that dim automatically to reduce headlight glare. Safety is the usual Mercedes standard and includes an anti-theft alarm, an emergency call system and front and rear side airbags.
In general, most drivers consider their '01 C240 classy, stylish, and quite prestigious. Or, perhaps they just liked being the first owners of the C240's inaugural year.
