Its A Jeep Thing.... — 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport (TJ). Has yet to die on me no matter what. Gas mileage blows in comparison to a car (18 average). Solid axles fore and aft (D30/D44) so it rides like a tank, 231 t-case with a 2.72 gear reduction in 4L. The bullet proof 4.0 mated to the truck edition of the NV3500 series tranny; Currently using the 04 version of the 3550 due to the implementation of real bushings instead of paper. Factory equipped with 30" rubber along with a set of 3.73s to push em and an LSD equipped rear end, one could go to 95% of the places in the world stock...... But stock isn't perfect. OEM brakes blow due to the relationship between the piston bore size and pad sweep area. A quick call to Van down in LA and a set of revised knuckles and dual piston calipers off a Ford Exploder fixes that problem nicely. The D30 is internally sealed inside the diff leaving the tubes open to fill with crap. Tube seals fixed that up nicely. Stock diff covers are made out of 1/8" thick stamped steel. Good for curbs, horrible for anything else. Some 3/16" cast steel covers from Rockcrusher was the solution. The original exhaust was kinda quiet and all told boring plus I6s have a unique tone that should be heard, hence my Dynomax Super Turbo I installed. For 00-01 the stock tranny blows. It was the first time the NV3550 was made for Jeep, and New Venture gear screwed up. Later versions of the tranny were beefed up. Thanks to the PO destroying second gear for me, I had a good excuse to upgrade. Interior is a nice mix of classic design, neutral plastic and many rattles and knocks. Its a Jeep, it comes with the territory. Heep has yet to break down on me. However, there is very few OEM parts left on it. Engine, t-case, and the Tub are some of the few stock pieces left. Everything else I've either replaced due to wear or upgraded.

Jeep - "it's A Jeep Thing" - O|||||||o — I once did a 180 degrees on the 101 going South bound, avoiding a car that suddenly changed lane in front o fme and braked. The Jeep Wrangler made the 180 degrees and across the 5 lane freeway, unturned (thank God!). I must say, who ever say that Wranglers are unsafe and easily turn-over has been proven wrong, at least on that day.

ProsFun to drive, on road and off Consgas mileage, lack of cargo space

I'm Faithful To Wrangler — Acceleration at higher speeds is a little lacking, as is power on steep climbs. And since it's a mini SUV, cargo space is pretty limited. Otherwise, performace for me is great. The combination of off-road vehicle, convertible and something fun to drive is what I love. Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsAwesomeness ConsHard to hear the stereo witt the top down, lol.

Excellent! — It has plenty of punch on the road or off in the mud, and handles very well on the highway, even in the wind and rain. Never a problem with it, and have only had to rotate the tires besides change oil and gas it up. It looks great and is lots of fun. In the summer I take the top down and the doors off. Best convertible I've ever owned. Once again a vehicle that was cheap to title and license and is good on gas Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

A Great Used Vehicle, Let Others Be The First Owner. — This was my first NEW Car and from the beginning it was a pain in the ass. This car had problems both with the dealer and manufacture. It spent a lot of time in and out of the shop. I will never purchase a Chrysler product again. Primary Use: Commuting to work |
