2001 Svt Cobra A Steed For The Long Haul, Good Performance, Handling, And Comfortable — I bought my 2001 SVT Cobra used almost 2 years ago, I had been driving a 2001 SVT Lightning and the gas mileage was hurting me even at only 70 miles a day. Actually I wasn't even looking for another car having purchased the 92 1/2 LX 5.0 Limited Mustang, but the SVT BUG got and this car is Silver just like my Lightning, I have owned, well I guess this is my 6th or 7th Mustang, guess I need a BARN not a garage. ANyway for the review, these are remarkable Mustangs, yes at the time they were the most powerful stock mustangs available (that is no longer the case), put with this power came other things that Stang owners could only dream of, like precise and predictable steering, decisive braking and cornering, as well as I car that was more than accommodating for a long drive, 1200-1500 miles without so much a tingling in my back or leg! For an old man like myself that is saying something! Fuel mileage is great for a high performance vehicle, only average for other cars, 26H/ 18C, maybe 8 if you are only doing 1/4 or 1/8 at a time, I willusually get fuel at the track at 5.50 a gallon so I can't be sure of the exact mileage, if you are considering an SVT Cobra though you really need to TREAT yourself to a weekend at a road coarse, somethnig I would have NEVER dreamed of with my other Stangs ( but I did take the Lightning there on a few occasions) my local track is Seibring... it is way better than drag racing (or maybe it's that age thing again?)! Well I am getting (OFF) track again, lets see, other than normal maintenance the only thing I have had to replace in the last 30000 miles is a l/s window regulator (common in most all mustangs), but that is it, making these actually affordable after the initial purchase. The other thing I happened on by accident (if you looked at my 1992 LX 5.0 review) is the "classic insurance" companies consider this an "exotic" car, and once again I was STUNNED by the rate they quoted me FULL COVERAGE including "ACTUAL STATED VALUE REPLACEMENT" is less than 300.00 per year, I was paying over 2400.00 a year through Nationwide for both these cars, now I'm paying less than 600.00 for both of them! THe thing about buying these used, not as much to worry about abuse, the price difference between these and a GT Mustang usually means an older driver that is more likely to take it somewhat easy on the car, I mean a few trips to a road coarse isn't going to destroy a car right?? No really I'm asking! Really, these engines are HAND BUILT, and they are built for performance from top to bottom, they are going to hold there resale value very well the fact that there is no SVT anymore, plus they were always limited productions, as long as you take car of the car, you will not suffer when you sell it. As I always try to stress keep these cars as stock (as you can), I realize that air intakes, exhaust, throttle bodies, cams.... no problem, just keep the appearance as close to "stock" as you can and remember to SAVE THE OLD PARTS, you never know if the next person is going to want to take the car back to original condition and this can cost 1000.00's of dollars and it might make or break a sale for you. That is going to do it for the 01 SVT Cobra, I still have 3 1969 Mach 1's a 72 351 HO Convertible and a nice 1957 Fairlane with a 428CJ to do yet...... maybe I will work on them after diner, oh and I will do the 2001 SVT Lightning (although I don't have that anymore) I still remember a few things about it, and have a horror story to tell you that might change your mind the next time you want to do a performance modification while the vehicle is still under warranty Owner for 2 years, 0 months Miles Driven per Year:18,000

When I Bought It I Was A Tuner With No Appreciation For American Muscle — at first the man clutch was a little stiff but i got used to it the only complaint i have is that every redlight warrior wants to race when they see the cobra badge now i just wave them on Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsPower, style, head turner, sport tuning, loud roar, show car :) ConsLow mileage, gets the police's attention too, tires too wide for off-road/gravel driving. The high torque causes spin-out.

A 'wow' Car. Highly Appreciated For What She Is. — I like the mod exhaust noise. It makes you feel like you are bringing a jet to the road. It also handles very well for city and highway speeds. But in case you want to try the machine out, you have the chance with this one. On a raceway, I did 140 mph and slowed because my mom freaked out. The previous owner did 175 mph once. It has the muzzle. True pony. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Prospowerful and sharp looking. really makes you feel like your in a good spot for peoples eyes. Consnot good on gas usually when traveling long distances. and when you forget about the use of 91-93 oct gas only and put 87 oct in it it bogs down and there is a decrease in power.

Overall A Good Sporting Car For Looks And Driving — everything inside and out of this car is solid and not once had problems with it until the person who sold it to me gave me wrongful information knowing that something could have happened by there knowledge. really a nice car Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsHead turner for sure, and with this motor, you can't be discreet. All muscle, it's so fun to drive! Excellent acceleration, handling and braking. It hugs the road and has precision steering. ConsMotor seems loud on the inside, but I love it that way! I can't find anything wrong with this car, other than the price of gas! Not a family car, due to backseat modifications for racing purposes.

Ultra-fast Fun — All around a great muscle car. Powerful, it hugs the road and maneuvers very well at high speeds. From a dead stop, acceleration really gets it! I love everything about this car, from its looks to its price! Worth every penny. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Mustang Cobra: Domination — One of my current Mustangs is a 2001 Ford Mustang Cobra. Although I have upgraded the exhaust, suspension, and wheels, the car was already amazing stock. Any one who drives a Mustang Cobra will fall in love and be amazed at how far back in the seats you go when the throttle is maxed. ProsIts a Ford! Custom body kit, lowered, weight reduced, aftermarket headlamps / tail lights / seats. ConsGas consumption. Maintenance, I always kept it clean as possible and always changed the oil within 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever was first.

Must Have — I used to own one, sadly I sold it while in college... had to pay for college some how right? Anyways I bought it out of a junkyard, just had some minor frame damage but needed a new door, quater panels, front fender, bumper, headlamps.. etc.. only paid 1,900 for it but cost just over 5 grand to fix it up. Most of the parts were from junkers, and few aftermarket pieces. Anyways, gas consumption is somewhat of a issue if you don't mind forking out the cash for gas but its a heck of a fun car to be driving around during the weekends to show off or cruise around in. ProsGood looking, fun and its the last of the NA powered Cobras ConsThe TRANSMISSION

Get It If The Tranny Has Be Swapt Out Or You Feel Confident With It. Could Get A Good Deal On One — Good car, minus the POS 5 speed transmission. It was not a T5 like the past Cobras and GTs, but it was not the badass T56 found in later Cobras, Vettes, Vipers, ect. I went threw 4 of them, with two of them dying just weeks after replacement. It was a good car, and I had a blast owning it as such an early age. Alot of my best car moments happened in this one. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Aftermarket Parts Are Expensive Fun Overall Worth It — This car has been put through hell on the track and the original motor still hasnt givin up. Its close to 140k so rebuild is in the works as well as a single turbo. gas mileage is what as expected from a V8.. bad. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Fun Car — i love every thing abou this car its my baby. however for everyone out there that owns a mustang with this body style these mustangs have problems with the filler neck seal not a expensive fix just time consuming to replace it. so far that has been my only problem.
