Great First, Commuter, Or Small Family Car — Bought the car in March of 2001. It now has 200,224 miles on it. It still gets 29mpg in the stop & go daily commute, and 35mpg on the open highway. Kept up with the standard maintenance schedule, and it still runs and handles great. Acceleration is ho-hum, but at 130HP what do you expect? There were a couple of recalls & TSBs early on, but they were handled by the dealer. So far the only major component to fail that was not covered was the alternator at about 130,000 miles. The 5 speed shifter base is made from a plastic/composite material and is prone to breaking. I'm on my 3rd. Easily swapped in the driveway in less than an hour. Body/panel integrity is still solid, which is odd for a 12 year old car in the northeast. Interior holding up well, no split stitching or other tears. Front seats were pedestrian to start with, but no noticeable deterioration in the seat foam or springs. First clutch & brake jobs were performed at ~145K miles, per dealer inspection. All in all, it's been a great car. Economical and fun ride for a small sedan.

Pros

Other then the ease of maintenance I don't really have any pros for the split port sohc 2.0

Cons

At 106544 the vehicle with fresh oil dropped a valve and blew a piston, left me stranded an hour from home

Sohc Engine Is Junk And Should Have Been Recalled — Had no way to know anything was happening, it sputtered and blew up, not something i had expected to have happen, and the automatic transmission shift solenoids go out frequently. No hope for these vehicles and I would never own another with that engine in it.

Pros

This car is fun to drive, It handles well and very good on the gas.

Cons

The Alternator on this car is a pain to replace since it is located on the rear of the engine.

Fun To Drive. — Very fun car to drive with excellent braking and handling and can fit a family of five. It accelerate smoothly and very good and the gas. If you like to work on cars yourself this car is great to perform most of the maintenance yourself, like changing spark plugs, air filter, and changing fluids.

good on gas

Cons

Fix Or Repair Daily

Buy A Honda — The performance of this car is satisfactory due to the fact that it is on a sport suspension and the 5 speed manual transmission helps improve engine respnse pretty well. the build quality is alright. so far it hasnt fallen apart or broke down altogether. the appearance is pretty shaky. its got its bumps and dents but its holding out. the cost of ownership is super low. gas lasts forever and parts arent terribly expensive. fun factor. this car couldnt race much of anything but its somewhat entertaining to drive being a manual and the sport suspension.

Pros

all dark blue paint, tinted windows, alloy wheels, everything works, including AC

Cons

fuel pressure regulator went out, Ford has none in stock, get used one from recycle yard. Plastic window guide rail broke, another cheap fix from junkyard if you have mechanical talent

Cool, Dependable , Fast Enough — As a Ford fan I like this one a lot, got it for a great price from friend, plenty of cargo room when seats are folded down, easy over 30MPG when doing highway speeds, but goes to mid 20's when running around town. I should be driving this one for quite awhile, its definitely not for sale, I like it too much.

Great 2nd Car — Great 2nd car, Ztech motor is awsome, put a timing belt on and good to go. When I bought it the rockers were completely gone so I found some trim from a Taurus and cut it down and it looks great. I'll post some pics when I can

A Versatile And Efficient Design — This car has given reliable performance and consistent gas mileage (26 city / 35hwy) over 126,000 miles of ownership. Focus SE wagon has sport handling with nice manual shift. A very dog friendly cargo space that also has adapted easily for camping and other recreational use. The roof rack can also support luggage, snowboards, etc. adding to convenience on long trips. Interior trim has retained a clean, uncracked finish. Tires seemed to wear out more often, especially when failing to do regular rotation. When car is fully loaded the engine power is fine for flat interstates and modest grades, but challenged for steep mountain roads which require downshifting. No major problems after 10 years, only the usual replacements of tires, batteries, shocks.

My Ford Focus — I like the sporty nature of my car, ease of parking, and overall driveability. I get mediocre gas mileage compared to other sub-compacts. This is a cheap car to maintain. The color gets so many compliments: Its like a copper/gold/bronze. I wish I had money to customize! i love my car

aero-dynamic, good bit of pep to it, gas milage

Cons

the shape that gives it it's aero-dynamics, and it's namesake.

Not My First Choice By Far..but Good Car Nonetheless — Now, im not a fan of Ford cars by ANY means.. except maybe the higher trim mustangs (Cobra, Mach1 anyone?) and this thing looks like a big rollerskate with tires.. but i'll be damned if it doesn't have a nice lil burst of speed when the pedal is punched, and handles corners like a champ..you can have some cheapo, hard as nails, wal-mart tires on there and it'll hug the road, and gas effecient..who'd figure?

Cons

Pretty Good Car — Handles great, but I have had a few problems. It has a great interior and an awesome stereo system. There is plenty of space for such a small car.
