Great Little Run-around — Quality of the car is pretty good and its quite a solid car, Performance wise its only a 1.2 8v but its pretty nippy, really cheap to run and fix, also i fun little car to drive and little mods make it look great.

Pros

Performance, Space, Looks, Interior, Engine and gearbox

Cons

Fuel economy, the fact that the exhausts always fall off

Fiat Punto 2001 Sporting — I bought this car as a second owner,at 6 years old having done 24,000 miles, so it was an excellent example. It's the sporting model, with a 1.2 litre, 16v engine, which although small develops 80bhp, which makes it certainly the quickest 1.2 litre hatchback in its class. Fuel economy can be good, but as the rev range is quite broad, revving up to 7/8,000 rpm, the power is right up in the revs. If you want to go fast, you have to rev the nuts off it, and then you're doing mid 20's for mpg. Build quality inside is pretty decent, although reliability wise they all have problems with their exhausts (everyone i know who's had one reports the back box falling off) , but that's it. The car is quick, handles well with the tyres that were fitted and has an excellent stereo. There is so much room inside that people never believe it, and the general packaging of the car, how much legroom you have and the size of the boot is much better than any of the rivals. The car was styled by Giugiaro, and it shows. The sleek looking projector lens headlamps look great, and the car has sharp lines that still look great now, especially with the bodykit that is fitted as standard on the sporting model. The interior is stylish with great sports bucket seats, a nice leather steering wheel and a six speed gearbox, with some fairly decent plastics in the interior. Fiat seem to be good at making cheap interiors seem nice (althouth admittedly, the base spec punto has an awful inteiror) I would definitely recommend the car to others, as it's great fun to drive, has a six speed gearbox which adds to the fun, and looks fantastic, all with a sizeable chunk of Italian style.

Punto's R The Way 4ward, Lol — it looks like a hair-dresser's car, but i dont care, its comfortable, easy to handle n control the weight transfer at speed, it doesnt have a very good top end, but u wudnt either after 91,000 miles, its whats under the bonnet that counts, a lil bit of tuning n get u a long way, just costs more pety, lol 15-65mph in 2nd gear, woohoo :)

Pros

Small economical cheap to tax and run

Cons

major common faults in gearbox and wipers

45

2001 Fiat Punto 1.2 5 Door — This is a good solid base model car with which i have had very few problems. The major problem I had was when the gearbox packed up, and it cost a lot to put it right - and more annoyingly I then discovered it's a common fault on this car. Another common fault - and very irritating it is - the wiper mechanism's have a habit of falling to pieces so you dont have any wipers when it starts to rain. Other than these niggles this is a very good, economical car, if a little uncomfortable on long journeys.

The Beauty

Cons

Engine Problems

Stunner But Not A Runner — I would say a punto is a great first car, although you have to be careful, as with these cars you get what you paid for. I wouldn't buy one that costs £2,000 or less. I made the mistake and completly regretted. I now have owned 2 of these because the looks just cant be beat.

Fiat Punto (2001 (y)) 1.2 — Fiat Punto Mk. II (Rev. A) 2001 (Y) - 1.2L 8v (60bhp) My first car; and I can safely say that it is an appropriate vehicle to use for a first car. I am/was the 3rd owner of the car, bought for £2,400 in May 2007, not bad considering it had only covered 38,500 miles since 2001. The car wasn't in perfect condition but what 6 year old car is? A few scratches and stone chips lined the bonnet front. The rear left wing has a trolley dent in it, and the rear right wheel arch has an especially deep stone chip. The passenger side front window has been replaced due to a previous "chav" (from what I predict) decided to steal the radio, and the drivers seat had a bit of wear to it. Other than this there wasn't anything wrong with the car. Appearance - I based the majority of my choice of car on the appearance of it, and this car especially has some great features. I really like the appearance of the slitted headlights, with the modular design for each lamp; giving the car a more aggressive face, compared to that of the old Vauxhall Corsa for example. The car also has the wheels in the same manner as a Smart ForTwo, the wheels are crammed at either end of the car with little overhang to give better grip whilst driving. The rear end of the car is very wide, but the lights look the business at this end too. I have the knife edge design lights which look by far the best. Some other Puntos have concave lights which look very cheap and nasty. The styling is sharp and defined, and sweeps around the car very well. Performance - The engine is a 1.2 litre 8 valve (60 BHP) powerhouse... *ehem*... ok so not the most gutsy engine, especially in a car that weighs about 1.2 tonnes. Acceleration - Like all small engined cars you need to be very harsh with it to get any decent increase in speed, usually involving redlining every gear change. But if you want to drive like that, buy a bigger engined version, or buy a different car all together. Speed - The engine will happily coast along at 60-70mph in 5th, any higher (around 80 mph) and the car starts to shake quite vigorously, and the steering can become very sensitive, and if you keep going you really do have some big "giblets". Suspension - Quite stiff if I must say so myself. You do feel quite a lot of bumps and cracks even in the smoothest of roads, however the stiff suspension helps in cornering. The height of the car is something to be believed, and even with the suspension as it is, the car rolls a hell of a lot... any softer and it would definitely roll over on a fast bend. Braking - My car is not equipped with ABS, although it does have a slot in the dial gauge for an ABS warning light, which I thought was odd. However, braking can be tricky. If you panic, you will lock up the wheels and with the 1.2 tonnes of weight behind you, you won't be stopping any time soon. Although if your alert and brake with enough force to avoid skidding, the brakes will stop you nicely. Finish later...

Pros

Carries tons of stuff, very nippy, looks good and has lasted well.

Cons

I can't stand the rear seat headrests! they get stuck and I can't take them off!

My Punto — My car will carry any and everything!!!!! it has helped me shift stuff on numerous occasions. It always polishes up well and in 4 years I have only had to change the exhaust system. Spares are cheap and plentiful (although not needed at present).

Punto-mania By Pilgrim Jim — I love the thing to bits, my first car and its never once let me down (despite to horror ghost stories you hear about fiats (fix it again tomorrow)) easily does 110mph and its a bog standard engine, i have added no modifications or anything. now for specifics - it is quite nippy for a small engined car and the handling is good to a certain extent being that it is a small hatchback, it slides in the rain though and the brakes are mediocre. - i personally think that it is one of the sexiest cars ive ever seen, the outer shell is a great shape and the interior looks awesome aswell - as the for the fun factor, it is a 15/10. its small, nippy, and has the most amazing button inside called a city button that lightens the already super light steering my miles, i've actually been seen driving around town at about 70 with 1 finger just touching the steering wheel, i would recommend that everyone in the world buy one of these.
