The 2001 RL received few changes from the 2000 RL. An emergency trunk opener was a new standard feature, joining the new features that had been standard in the RL since 1999: side airbags, high-intensity discharge xenon headlights, and a beautiful interior.
The engine for the 2001 RL remained a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 210 horsepower and 224 lb-ft of torque. The 2001 RL requires premium gas, and gets 19 miles per gallon during city driving and 24 miles per gallon during highway cruising.
Not surprisingly, drivers complain about the disappointing mileage and cost of premium fuel. Most drivers are very happy with their 2001 RL's; they love the comfort of the interior, and find the appointments to be very stylish. They also like the performance, citing superior handling, cornering, and braking as some of the RL's best features.
