Fun, Affordable, Economic Transportation With A German Flair. — love my car, don't love the base 2.0 it comes with (i shoulda spent the other $800 on the 1.8t). other than that, has a lot more miles than average (333k), and has held up really well with nary a major problem. i still get 33mpg with it, and the handling is still crisp, even with snow tires and worn springs/shocks/struts. clutch is the only major component that needed to be replaced (and that 300k on it!). very easy to work on, a shadetree mechanic or budding tech can keep this car on the road very easily. cost of ownership has been great to me, i've owned her since new, and while i may have spent thousands on her, keep in mind, $1k+ is just in oil changes (34 oil changes with mobil1). i'd say over 333,000 miles i may have spent $4k total in maintenance, and another $600 for clutch parts and labor. i still get a smile on my face every day when i drive her, so i guess the fun factor is still there. :)

Can't Really Beat It For The Price. — I loved that car. It was perfect in the sense that it had good gas mileage, nice personality and room for the friends and lugage! However I got it when it had over 100,000 miles and there were MANY mechanical issues developing... too much to worry about at that point so I decided to get the Mini.

Jetta Tdi 2000 — Nice little mexican-made german car, i love it a lot exept for electronics and electric parts. It's a little expensive when you head to VW to get parts missing, those germans, such nice cars but why the hell assemblling'em in mexico... this is the question...

Reliable And Easy To Mod Compared To Others That Is Competes With. — My PLATINUM MAMA. We've been through alot together. The best is still yet to come! It all started in 2001 when I discovered here in my uncle's junk yard. The previous owner flipped her a couple times across 64. The passenger's side was completely smashed in and the sunroof was almost non exsistent. After about a year of bodywork and getting all the major bugs out of the engine Platinum was reborn. In 2004 she was the focus of my senior project. Mods that were added were 18" rims undercar light system, cool air intake and tinted taillights. Not much but it got me an A for my senior project and to this day it s the standard of how much work should be put forth on a Senior project. After freshman year at ECU all my mods came off and she was completely stock again. Small additions have been added since then but we have only just begun.......again

2000 Jetta To Gli-spec — Peppy little 2 litre motor, looks classic, build quality is quite good on outside, a bit of noise from old trim on inside. Great on gas, costs nothing to maintain, runs like a dream. Would definitely recommend this car to any student.

Pros

Fuel mileage (55 on our way to Denver!) and it's quick!

Cons

If you mistreat it and not do the maintenance, things will go wrong.

I Love It And Look Forward To Keeping It For A Long Time! — It's easy to shift, handles really well, and compared to other cars I've had, it's FAST! We haven't had any real problems yet, but if we do later, Cody knows a lot about them and can fix most everything. It's small and fits me perfectly, and just a smooth ride. I love it!

Heater Leather Seats, Handling, Aftermarket Part Varieties

Cons

Cost To Fix Parts

:d — The car is pretty quick and has great acceleration. Handling is superb and never has a problem taking tight turns at speed. The car is built great from the ground up. I dislike the plastic front and rear valences but upgrades are available. The appearance of the car is very sharp and aggressive looking especially with the addition of a BOSER hood. The car gets about 20-25 MPG. take like 25-30 to fill the tank and gas is at 2.53 a gallon. Car is so Fun. :D

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Great — Good well built car. Parts last quite a while but are expensive to replace when broken. Not alot of power from the factory but with upgraded injector nozzels it drives great. Awesome car for a base plateform to build power
