ProsPerformance, build quality, appearance, fun factor ConsFront wheel drive, should be rear wheel drive

2000 Mercury Cougar — Love the performance, acceleration is excellent for a small six cylinder, braking is tight and very responsive, and the handling is great. Minor rattles, but the car is almost 10 years old, to be expected. Interior is nice, foldaway cupholder is good, although the design of such is weak. Exterior styling is gorgeous, fluid lines, looks like she's moving when she's sitting still. Cost of ownership is minimal, mileage is decent, and maintenance isn't overly expensive. Overall, the sleekest, sexiest machine I've ever owned or driven, and I love driving it. Doesn't hurt that she attracts attention everywhere we go. I'd recommend this car to anyone, but they haven't made them since 2002, so they're harder to find.

2000 Mercury Cougar - 30+ Mpg — For a 2.0l 4 cylinder, you can't really complain. If you're looking for speed, look elsewhere obviously. The cougar tops out at 110mph where the fuel is cut off to prevent you from going any faster. I personally installed an intake and exhaust a few months after buying the car and noticed that around 50mph I could get around 40-45mpg. The car had a digital dash readout of the outside temperature, trip odometer and gas mileage. If you start the car holding down the unit and reset button you could get the CEL codes, a digital readout of the RPMs and the engine temp. I loved this car and regret selling it, but I was naive then and thought that I'd enjoy having something with acceleration. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Good Car, Would Reccomend It. — Good car, 25-30mpg , sleek appearance. Brakes are good, but could be better. Low maintenence. I have fun driving this car. Car is quick, but not fast. Fun to fly around those curves in ;). Easy car to modify and make your own. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Good Car, Much Like Others, With A Little Of Routine Maintanence It Makes A Great Car — Fun car. slightly underpowered 2.5 although has potential and is a great daily driver. Low end acceleration is a little doggy. around 3500 when the secondary plentums open the 2.5 comes to life. Braking is quite good. I have drilled and sloted rotors. Appearance is nice, suttle body line transition with rounded body, much like the 2g eclipse. car is very fun to drive. Primary Use: Commuting to work

I've Really Enjoyed Owining This Car — Great car, the zetec isnt the most powerful engine but it's got aftermarket potential. Mine is now supercharged. Handling is amazing with the aftermarket goodies I've added. Build quality is great, with the big stereo it doesnt rattle up the interior. Reliability is amazing, no major repairs needed, swapped to a focus motor with 340 000 km on it and it was still running strong. Parts are cheap and it looks amazing, it's aged very well.

2000 Mercury Cougar Advise — I love my cougar. I just bought it and let me tell you..they are EXPENSIVE to fix. I happen to have many helpful friends in the automotive industry so I have a few tips. NEVER get your clutch fixed through ford. Unless you work their or have a friend there..it'll run you around $2100 to fix..ridiculous right?! also,if you have trouble with the alternator, get the wires checked first(they are knows to go) before replacing it.If it isnt your wires, trying getting the brushes replaced. Also, change your fuel filter often.Mine was 83% clogged when I bought it. Anyways, other then the $2200 in maintanence, its a great car.

ProsLow cost maintence, good mods, easy to fix Conslittle bit of ratteling upon start up

Love This Car!!! — I bought this car after my 97 mustang was totalled and I adore this car! I have been able to find tons of mods with little effort and is easy to fix personally (I am a chick with minor expeirence). I love the sleek style and for a 4cyl my little 5 speed is QUICK and hugs turns! I have had no issues and has 181xxx miles. The only issue i ran into was i had to replace the rear hatch support but took maybe 45mins. I highly reccommend it best bang for your buck! Primary Use: Family transportation
