2000 Ford Mustang Base Review
ProsAcceleration, Handling, and Braking all Performance level. ConsPales in comparison to other cars in the same class due to its middle-of-the-road design. With a large V6 in a car designed for a V8 it lacks power, and wasn't intended to handle like the common V6 imports.

Peppy, Light, And Flashy V6 Model — I absolutely love this car. It keeps me in the comfort of an American style sports car: roomy, with space to expand (both passenger count and engine size), while also providing a low center of gravity and light body, combined with smaller wheels to give me that rice-burner-esque handling. However, with this car being an all-rounder, it doesn't exceed at any one task, other than looking sexy. After a good bath and wax, it seems to be smiling at the camera with every little sparkle in its metallic finish paint. Other than that though, in sports car terms, it is mediocre in all departments. It can accelerate to 60MPH quickly, but easily beaten out by smaller cars with less weight, or bigger cars with more power. It also has good handling, but will be far outshined by other models such as the Nissan 350Z or even something as simple as a Honda Civic or other import. And it's not just in the import market either. If put up to the test, it would almost certainly be beaten out by new models of the Cobalt from Chevrolet, or the Pontiac G6. To round it out, it is a joy to drive. My previous car was a good condition Chevy Camaro, late 80's model. Being only a small 3.1L V6 I didn't get much of that American Muscle action you'd expect, and the heavy frame made my handling suffer, so switching from that to the 2000 Ford Mustang is an upgrade in every department, with a lighter body weight, a larger engine (3.8L V6), and a shorter body combined with lower center of gravity, it makes every drive that much more enjoyable.

ProsIt's a V8, kinda beefy and love the modern muscular look. ConsIf you're looking for fuel efficiency don't buy a GT!

2000 Mustang Gt — Heavy foot=NO GAS, I get 10-12 mpg. She is fairly responsive, or responsive enough to at least get a few tickets with! She is a very fun car to drive and the grumble from the exhaust is music to my ears! Primary Use: Commuting to work

Prosconvertible top Consleaks can occur with conv tops

Love It — Great performance, great convertible top...love to ride with it down! Stylish chiseled exterior, one thing that is bad is that convertible tops tend to leak. This car is fun to drive! Gas mileage okay, but could be better! LOL Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsFun and in my budget. ConsFord stop making parts for it, and I have to get 2003 parts. They have to be modfied to fit.

Fun — I like that it wasn't expensive, but it lacked the factory horsepower to compete with cars in its class. Still lots of fun and I put it through hell and it's just started to fall apart after 110,000 miles of abuse. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsWill always make the driver smile and the passengers scream ConsIf no exterior mods you'll blend in with other mustangs

Great Car! — It was cheap. Its fast. Classic V8 Sound.... and Torque! The mod options are endless. Personally beat 350Zs, G35s, Cobalt SS, new Charger R/T, and a 4th Gen Camaro Z28....all with minor bolt ons.... not to mention its been very reliable. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsConvertible, rims, great condition ConsHigh mileage, low MPG, losing sound from music with top down

2000 Ford Mustang Convertible — Slower than it looks. Moves when I need it to, but the high mileage kills it from time to time. Body is mint, can't find many imperfections. Everyone thinks my car is brand new; it's 8 years old. Very nice car to cruise in, and I enjoy it a lot. Great drive.

ProsLooks good. ConsSmall back seat.

2000 V6 Mustang Convertible — Fun to drive, looks great, good convertible, sound system decent for stock, sounds good with catback borla exhaust. Average build quality, but worth minor rattles for looks. Could have better seat support. Back seat very minimal. Feels good to drive and looks good in Atlantic Blue. Style bar addition and chrome magnum 500 wheels make the car sweet looking.

ProsStraight-line Acceleration, Looks/Style, Sound, Performance, etc. etc the basics. ConsCheap interior, handling, so-so reliability, lack of synchros for reverse gearing.

Unrefined Muscle Car Fun — My Mustang was stock for all of a week when I first bought it so I can't comment much on that. I put on Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers which give it a borderline obnoxious 70's style rumble throughout the RPMs. As for other performance mods it responds well and gives more noticeable gains than most cars. It's handling, while not great, is predictable at least. It takes a little more attentiveness to park perfectly straight but nothing you can't get used to. The lack of synchros for the reverse gear can lead to some aggravation since no trick I've found works 100% of the time. Clutch pedal effort might be a little too much for some due to the cable clutch setup found in all Mustangs (versus hydraulic clutch standard in most cars) and the upgraded clutch in the '99 and up Mustang GTs required due to the higher power rating. The interior has some squeaks and rattles, but nothing too bothersome and you wouldn't buy a Mustang for luxury anyways. The interior looks good though which is good enough for me. Reliability is so-so. Like all cars it has it's issues. To save money, Ford used plastic Throw Out Bearings in the Clutch Assembly, which typically are lucky to last 40,000 miles. While there are temporary solutions, it's an expensive job to get professionally done and a weekend job for the do-it-yourself crowd. The drive belt tensioner isn't made well, and typically squeals. I'm on number 3 which has just started to squeal and I've only put 10,000 miles on the car.

Fun In The Sun Sporty Car — This is a timeless classic ford mustang and is very fun to drive. It is sporty looking and you have the ability to put the top down on a hot summer day and enjoy the breeze. This vehicle is a real head turner Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |
