I bought the Dakota used in July 2002 with 40k on her. I've driven it all over the US. She has 146k miles on her now and has, only in the past few years, been giving me a hard time. She has a lot of power, hauled a 2T UHaul trailer, had the cargo bed loaded and inside the cab as well with 3 people when I moved from AZ to MN. She got an average of 17mpg then. BUT because of the V8 Magnum engine the town I live in now makes it hard to get better than 9mpg in town and I get close to 15mpg on the highways. The power window and door locks need to be completely replaced - but I'm not paying a dealer $275 for the window motor plus about $250 in labor per door, PLUS $190 per door lock motor and about the same in labor. The electrical system has been giving me issues for about 3years now and it's becoming fairly tedious! BUT overall I LOVE my truck!! I will likely work on her over the winter, but if I had the chance I'd buy the same truck again.

Pros

I found this truck to be very reliable, especially in extreme weather conditions.  Also it is very roomy and great for hauling trailers etc.   Or just to take out to the farm and take it mudding.

Cons

Poor fuel economy

Great Work Truck, Good-looking, Liked Everything About It. — I really do love this truck. It's great for work and hauling things like trailers or mowers, etc. It doesnt get the best fuel economy especially with the V8 Magnum. Which, is the biggest engine that dodge makes for dakotas. But if your wanting a work truck with lots of power. This is what you're looking for.

Awesome — 5.9L fast when not at full throttle. Instant power and great throttle response. Sleek flowing design. Doesn't take much to get it lowered to a good stance. Awesome truck to drive anywhere. Haven't replaced anything on the truck. Overall a good, fast, reliable truck.

GAS MILEAGE!!!!!

Ford Had The Mustang, Chevy The Camaro, So Dodge Made A Truck That Could Beat Em Both. — Truck books it stops on a dime and handles like a go-kart whats not to like? The trucks a blast to drive. If you drive in the city your going to the gas station every other day but hell it doesnt have a 5.9 V8 in it for economy.

Love It — I love the power this truck has with its V8 and the 4X4 to do some crazy off roading, the only thing i dont like about this truck is the dealership i bought it from. Well its about time to go drive my truck now.
