1999 Mercury Cougar 2 Dr V6 Hatchback Review
ProsAwesome gas mileage....Not bad looking. ConsA bit gutless....But some mods will help that.

Great Car....amazing Quality For The Money! — The performance is average, acceleration is a bit better than I had hoped, braking is excellent, and it handles pretty well. Build quality is superb. I have owned it for about 3/4 of a year, and I've done no repairs....Although it does now have a bit of moaning coming from under the hood....But that's just a slipping belt, an easy and cheap fix. Appearance wise, I think the exterior looks pretty good. I mainly like the aggressive look of the headlights. Interior is just as good. with 4 bucket seats in two-tone colors, I think it looks pretty sporty. The cost of ownership is amazing. Well built, and it gets really good gas mileage. The fun factor is lacking a bit, due to the slight lack of power.....But a few engine mods, or exhaust system, will help lots! Primary Use: Commuting to work

Cougar — Build Quality as far as mechanical wise was very good. For a small car is felt like you were driving a large performance vehicle. However I had to re-do half of the electrical myself to fix certian issues that are known with the car including headlights, guage cluster, voltage regulator and minor sensor issues. After that was all done the car was fun to drive and definatley a head turner one the headlights and taillights were tined, rims put on it, hids, custom suede intirior etc. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsSporty and cute! Perfect "girly" car! ConsTwo door made it kinda hard to get people in and out. Wasnt too fond of the bucket seats either.

I Miss The Style Of The Cougar! — Loved the Cougar...after I learned how to drive it. It had great power, was sleek, and was pretty easy to take care of. I especially loved the color of my Cougar! Extremely fun to drive as a late teen!

ProsAppearance, Handling, Relatively inexpensive to buy ConsTransmission, gas mileage

Once You Get Used To It, It's A Nice Car To Own — Gas mileage is pretty bad, it eats through it and gets somewhere between 13-19 mpg, whichever it feels like that day. Acceleration is a little sticky, but once you get out of first gear you're good to go. I have never had a problem with the braking, they're very responsive. Except for the sticking shifting, overall handling is very nice. Car is very fun to drive once you get used to it. Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsSleek body, economical on fuel, futuristic interior design, comfortable front seats ConsRear seats eat passengers, coffee holder is lethal and it's a "FORD!"

Purrrrrrrrrrrrfect For Me ;} — It looks like a sports car...corners like a golf cart and purrs like a coug and drinks very little. Gotta love a car that asks for nothing and gives everything. Can't complain...ask me again though in a year ;) As for expensis...it is a ford product so your servicing needs will be cheaper than the competition. Alternators are an issue because of location and if you ever have to replace the belts....eeek. Other than that, they are a very reliable, sporty, sleek looking ride. Oh yeah, try ta get your paws on the 4...and stay away from the vr6...they come with a road side kit and a jar of vaseline fer the many servicng needs you'll have ;}

Prosgreat torque and handling. ConsLoud on the road and moonroof prob.

1999 Cougar — Nice and sporty. Great handling. About the same excel as a Prelude, if not more. More torque than other cars in its class. Bullet proof engine. Some ppl complain about it being too noisey on the road but I like it. the 99-00 years have a faulty moon roof that breaks after about 100k miles and cost about $1200 to fix. the 01-02 models were fixed. Overall I'm satisfied over my cougar investment.

Great Car, Great Looking, Mechanically... Questionable? — This car was great it handled well and had close to 30 miles to the gallon. It is a decently light car but handled great in the winter...gooo front wheel drive. Emissions were terrible to fix ($800) put a lot of money into a car i just couldn't afford. Maybe if I had more money?
