ProsThis car looks great and drives like a dream. They are amazing cars that have held their looks well over time and for the price you can get it today, its a steal. Consmy car has 124000 miles and there is an oil leak somewhere.. maintenance is expensive but worth it when you consider the price over a used sl500.

Amazing Car For And Even Better Price. — i love the power of the V8, its unlike anything i have driven before, and with the custom exhaust i installed it sounds awesome. The looks are outstanding also, by far the sexiest car i've owned. It turns heads wherever i go and its a 99! not to mention that these cars cost over 85k brand new and are now going for 15k and under! i could not be happier with my 99sl500. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Fantastic, I Love The Way It Handles And It Can Get Out Of It's Own Way Quickly — Design & styling is great, speed and handling are best features. Down side is repairs are becoming more frequent and costly. Just bought 4 tires, over $1k for them and the worst part is performance tires are only rated for 40-45k miles and I'm sure your aware, you don't get anywhere near that many miles from them. Doesn't matter, I love this car. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) | ||

Great Car - — This is one of the best cars I have ever driven. It is tight, responsive, luxurious, well-built and well-engineered. I cannot wait to drive it each day. Getting behind the wheel put you into another zone, one of tranquility, power, and status. The engine is so quiet that it feels like it is not running and tapping the gas gets you quickly to a close to illegal speed. I have two other sports cars, Jaguars and without a doubt the SL is my favorite. | ||

Great Performance Without The Fuss Of A V12. — Looks great with hard top, rag top or no top. Very few issues other than routine maintenance in 11 yrs. Fun factor is near the top, cost of ownership pretty reasonable given modest number of repairs required. You do need to keep up with MB maintenance schedule. Primary Use: Commuting to work | ||

ProsVery reliable car, with fairly low maintenance costs. Handles great for its weight and a lot of fun to drive. Braking is great and responsive. With the windscreen up you hardly know the top is down except to the sun on your head. Acceleration is very good, feeling like you were shot from a sling shot. ConsHeadlights are not the best. I have the standard headlights and not the Xenon ones. The plastic on the rear window has developed a crease.

Awesome Convertible And A Blast To Drive. — I always wanted a SL500 and bought one 6 years ago. For the most part this car has been extremely reliable. I am a mechanic and maintain it very well and feel this is the most important thing no matter what kind of vehicle you own. About the only problems I have had with this car were a speaker going out and changing the strut supports which was a very inexpensive repair. The most expensive maintenance item was servicing the transmission, which was about $250 for fluid and parts. Mercedes used to have a "sealed transmission" which supposedly never needed to be serviced. After researching this I found out that many transmissions of this type ended up failing so I elected to service it and it is still trouble free.The gas mileage is surprising good as well, with mild mannered driving you can expect 23 to 25 MPG on the freeway. If you are thinking of buying a used SL make sure it has been serviced and taken care of. Buying a fixer upper SL is not a good idea. The parts and repairs can be very expensive. Luxury 2 Seater — fast quiet power, great on highway , very short turning circle. comfortable seating. long hood makes for feeling of luxury and windscreen breaks wind bother on the highway, the v8 is impressive with the quiet power surge and brakes are great, very smooth. | ||

Fast,solid,totally Classy — exceptional handling,steering,acceleration.Very quiet until you hit 6000 rpm,then it sounds like a symphony of power. Love the shifting options and the extra push buttons for handling,traction and sport driving. Looks as classy as the new ones. Glad I Purchased One, Wish I Could Afford A New One. — Best looking car on the road, big surprise, 24 mpg on trip to Florida, highway driving perfect, 14 hour trip, no discomfert at all, proformance great, only small complaint, brake noise and dust. Would buy one again tomorrow, great car. | ||
