Have you driven a 1999 Lexus SC 400?
1999 Lexus SC 400 Overview
By 1999, the Lexus SC line was approaching the end of its run. Significant engine improvements in the prior year had bolstered performance for the 400, but plans had already begun to completely restyle the luxury coupe. For this model, daytime running lights and a perforated leather trim were added. The previously optional 6-six CD changer became a standard addition to the exceptional Nakamichi stereo system.
The SC 400 had a very powerful 4.0 liter V-8 engine, boosted by Variable Valve Timing technology. The 290 horses took the SC from 0 to 60 in about six seconds, and through the quarter mile in 14.7 seconds at 93 mph. Top speed was listed as 149 mph. The SC's four-wheel independent suspension provided a smooth and stable ride throughout the speed range, and wind and engine noise were aptly muted even at high speeds.
Many SC owners have now reached 100,000 miles, and they seldom report any significant problems. Most have lauded the SC as a well built machine and a pleasure to drive. The experience is enhanced by the feel of the cockpit, which features a low driving position, wrap around dash, and thoughtful ergonomics that are typical of a Lexus.
