Cons

Not much room in the back but who cares if you're the one driving it.

My Baby — I drove my Jeep everywhere until it was stolen in May 2007. It had a smooth ride and had alot of power. Great handeling for an SUV. I miss it so much.

Jeep Cherokee '99 Sport — Is it fast? No Does it have amazing curves and angles? No Smooth ride? No But it has a 4.0L AMC engine that will never die on me. It can take abuse better than any other can out there and it is amazing off road. Also, it dosnt do to bad for gas, considering its a box. Depending on what mood im in I can get 5MPG to 27MPG.

Cons

Don't Drive It Like I Do And It Should Last You Wayyyy Past The 250k Mark. — For an SUV from the 90's its a pretty solid vehicle. Performance: 1st SUV ever to do 0-60 in under 8 sec. Nowadays this isn't that impressive but it's still a torque-monster, Braking is good for such a heavy vehicle, Handling is ok for it being a top-heavy vehicle but in general with all other vehicles taken into account, its pretty bad handling lol Build Quality: Repairs to mine are only needed cause I drive it so hard but for the most part drive it like your sane and it shouldnt give you that many problems. Appearance: Not sleek or stylish, but it still looks good today because it has that primal, truck look and feel like older model trucks, which in essence is what it is. Cost of Ownership: Maintenance is not too expensive, commonly found parts and moderately easy to fix, Mileage is not the greatest but keep it in top running order, throw in a short-ram, and dont push it all the time and you'll be makin 20-22 mpg honestly. Fun Factor: Oh... its definitely there :D

I Refuse To Get Rid Of It, Currently At 228,000miles — I love my car, it is very reliable. Keep up with maintenance and don't drive like a jerk and it will treat you good. Some parts start to get tired once you get to the higher miles so expect to replace a few things like wheel bearings ect...

Best Car Ever — The Cherokee remained virtually unchanged from 1984-2001, and there is a good reason for that: it was the perfect mix of size, weight, and style to last through the ages. Plenty of power, great handling, superior off-road performance, and the best value out there. It is cheap and easy to maintain, and I have never been stranded by this or my previous Cherokee. The only reason I replaced my '95 with this one was a head-on collision with a Buick a few years back. With a combined speed of 70+mph, I walked away and replaced with the same car because it was the total package, and I was blown away by the safety for such a lightweight SUV. Best car I have ever owned/driven.

Tough Little Off-roader — I loved this cars ability to go off road and to be extremely reliable. It had very good performance on and off road and was a reliable little car. It also has a lot of cargo space and on this one i had bike and roof racks for anything that i would want to bring with me and a ton of trunk space. The 4.0L inline 6 is definitely the way to go if you want one of these jeeps I don't thing I would consider getting the 4 cyl version.

A Real Suv — This may not have the luxury trappings of your fancy crossover Lexus's but it wasn't designed to cart your little kiddies to soccer practice. It handles well for a vehicle of it's size, and his great acceleration. The 4WD system is amazing I've driven it in over a foot of fresh powder and it preformed just fine. I've driven it on ice, not a problem. I've taken it off road, it goes further in 2WD then most SUV's will make it in 4WD. I did have issues with the stereo with front speakers not working. But I replaced them with an upgraded set and they worked fine after that. It turned out not to be the speakers themselves but a wiring issue that is common in Jeeps of that generation. It did get poor gas mileage but what can you expect out of an SUV. The 4.0L Straight Six engine never once has had any major issues, or broken down. Update: 10/22/2012. I no longer own this vehicle it provided me 7 years of reliable service without ever once breaking down or leaving me stranded anywhere. I would still own this vehicle today if it weren't for having major structural and suspension issues. The frame and axles had rusted through. The entire rear end was basically rotten. It had bad tie rods, brushings, and CV joints up front. It also needed new shocks and struts. The final call for all this is when the brake line failed and I discovered all the other issues in the rear. Due to the expense of these repairs I choose not to get it repaired. The dealer I had purchased my Jeep from is out of business and the owner has left town. He has sold many people lemons, and rebuilt wrecks from other states that got re-branded as "clean" in Ohio.

Cons

Jeep Cherokee, Great Car!!! — Overall performance is great! est. 190hp and its only 4900lb. so it has great acceleration. It brakes well and evenly. It dosen't handle like a Porche, but who would expect it too? Internally it is a very well built, sturdy vehicle. Transmission shifts well, and it transfers to 4wd smoothly. The engine is great and it runs very well. As for interior trim, it is no luxury sedan but its not ment to be. It gets the job done. It isn't as sound proof as many cars today (the engine is a little loud) but I could care less. Personally I love the boxy looking body and the gray magnesium wheels. Altough some people may prefer a sleeker vehicle. There are so many used '95-'01 cherokees on the market that they are really cheap. Ours has 84,000 miles on it and is in near perfect condition. The best part is that we only payed $5,200. Its not amazing on gas but its not a V8 guzzler. It does about 20 highway and 17 city. It is really fun to drive (you can go WHERE EVER you want too). Overall I am very pleased with this car and will buy another when it meets it's demise.
