Old Black Gets Through Anything — It has carried every body and every thing through anything. It has been through every snow storm in the last 10 years. It has carried the entire neighborhood through any storm, rain, sleet, snow, hail, trees, durecho, floods, tornadoes, and sunny weather. Our neighbors went out and bought one because this has been such a good car for us.

Decent — The size is not big enough for our families needs but overall is a great small SUV. It handles well, especially in the snow. Never got stuck and we live on a big hill. Has plenty of power and we used it to haul our boat. Drove it across country and it has been a trustworthy vehicle.

Pros

Had vehicle since new in 1999.  Has generally done very well during 14 years.

Cons

Has not aged very well in last few years.

Time To Put Out To Pasture — Have put 223,000 miles on vehicle since new. The transmission has not been replaced, but is getting "clunky". We never hauled anything, only kids, dog, and cargo. Has held up well, but is showing age and mileage now. Would recommend the bigger engines (ours has SOHC V6, not base V6) as they seemed to have held up better over time, especially if not hauling large loads. Acceleration is not what it used to be when new. No jump to vehicle. Gas mileage has gone down.

Cons

Doesn't ride the best in the back row of seats

Pretty Nifty Car — It handles pretty well. The breaks are pretty good but the acceleration pedal sticks a little bit so it is sort of jumpy at times. Interior is a little dirty in the back floorboard and the center console top is slightly ripping ever so surely. It gets pretty good gas mileage for how old it is and the fact that it is an SUV. Overall its a pretty fun car to drive.

Pros

Solid and safe cab. Rides smoothly, If driven right can get up to 20 mpg

Cons

expensive to fill up, but low cost to buy now.

Excelent Suv — Great vehicle. learned to drive on it and compare all other cars to it. Handling is sturdy, needs to take sharp turns slower but that is expected. Easy to do small maintainence but costs a fourtune to take to a shop. Can hit a buck at 50+ mph and only break a headlamp cover.

1999 Explorer V8 — Performance: Average acceleration, braking and handling. Build Quality: No major repairs @ 175,000. Sunroof leaks some. Rear hatch rattles over large bumps. Appearance: Good. Clean and simple inside and out. Cost of Ownership: Gas mileage not great, 16-17mpg average. Maintenance cost are not bad. Fun Factor: Really?? Its fun in the snow, lol.

Cons

Best And Strongest Car I Know Of — Its a strong truck that we can get in and drive problem free. we have taken it across the country on extreme last minute things and it will go no problem. it has plenty of power and the handling is amazing. the body is in great shape and it gets 20mpg highway. we filled it up with cement when working on our house and it drove through cities and highway like there was nothing in it. over all i could not be more pleased in a car.

Definitely a head turner and lots of fun

Cons

Hard to drive

I Wish I Never Sold This Car — I loved this truck. I put over $10,000 dollars into this truck in the course of 5 years. It was great for off roading and rock climbing but not so great for daily driving, especially at high speeds on the interstate. The steering box still needed some work as well as other steering components. Overall, it was unlike any other Explorer around and looked great with no body damage even after all of the off road trips I put her through.

Amazing Quality, Great Buy. — Love it. Has about 250km on it, needed minimal work and this has seen true off road! Gas mileage in city isn't the greatest, but amazing on hwy. Acceleration pedal sticks a little. Paint has lasted, and minimal rust on back hatch. I do wish it had a more aggressive look.
