98 Maxima Reveiw — Maxima's are the best in it's class! The car is solid and I never had many problems with it besides unfortunate things that other people have done to it. The car is very roomy and it is still under 3000 pounds. Mine has 220k miles and it is still going

I Picked It Up Cheep, One Of The Best Buys I've Ever Made — Great car. Got power, handling and comfort. Great for cruising or racing. Sips on gas when cruising, has balls when you hit the gas. Cheep to insure and all around great! Nissan did right with the Maxima. Powerful sports car engine, with refined comfort of a sedan

260k And Still Ran Great.... — this car held up great had it for 5 years. did have to replace the transmission once around 180k and again around 240k but i'm hard on transmissions. this car was fun to drive and had great gas mileage one tank would get me from NC to MD with gas to spare. had a major accident in this car and came out with no scratches..

Pros

Great handling, really reliable, lots of used parts available, low maintenance, comfy seats, good highway mileage, lots of pickup, great brakes. Unlike newer cars, window sills are low and has a very airy feeling, especially with the sunroof wide open (it is the 4 Door Sports car, according to Nissan). Sunroof still works great, doesn't leak a drop. Easy to "tweak" and turn into a bit of a great handling fun car/toy; friend has one that does well over 150 MPH after motor and suspension add-ons.

Cons

Shifter button can become non-responsive (easy fix), in town mileage so-so, best performance requires premium (but runs great on regular). Ours does not have ABS, but does have front air bags. Spoiler (SE model only) can be a bit fragile, but epoxy fixes it. A/C works fine but takes a bit of time to get cranking; heater is fine.

Rock Solid And Running Fine After 16 Years — Love the handling, body is still tight with only a couple of tiny, occasional rattles, doesn't have any squeaks. Easy car to work on for the most part, and any maintenance you'd do is easy to look up on the internet; lots and lots of YouTube videos showing you exactly how to fix just about anything. At 157K miles, shooting for 200K and am totally confident it'll get there. In the last year, have had to do several repairs (axle, mass air flow sensor, EGR valve, master cylinder, muffler), but that's the first significant work in the 12 years we've owned it. Just took it for 1,000 mile road trip and, as expected, ran beautifully and got 28-30 MPG on the interstate. Super old car.

Pros

the cornering with the coil overs

Cons

heat bogging with the intake when hot and humid

Not Bad For A Grocery Getter — Good but can always be betta. Recently converted to a 5 speed. Coil overs, Cold Air Intake, headers, slotted rotors, and exhaust make it more fun to drive. Need to work on appearance now. Possibly HIDs, and fogs would dress it up very nice. Very pleased with the performance after the mods

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Cons

Sub-par gas mileage

'98 Maxima — Overall, the Maxima is a great car. It's reliable (in as much as an eleven year old can be), a lot of fun to drive, and is very comfortable. It's getting old, but it still has plenty of life left in it.

My Nissan Maxima Gle — Very fun to drive, pretty good gas mileage, LOVE the interior (leather), solid build, FANTASTIC acceleration and handling. Has a V6 3000 twin cam engine, 24 valve. Lots of trunk and back seat space. Oh, and her name is Jenny :P

Pros

quick, decent gas mileage (24-30mpg), no timing belt to worry about, good looks (imo), lasts forever, holds 5 people, decent suspension, decent paint (still no rust and i haven't waxed it in over 2 years), base model (gxe) still has the most important power features, manual transmission works well once you get used to it and has good gearing (low and close until last two gears), auto transmission geared for better highway mileage (from what I hear)

Cons

rear brakes are terrible (e.g., rear calipers seize up, even after being replaced - have to leave manual car in gear since ebrake doesn't work right), rear seats don't fold, ignition coils and some sensors died prematurely, substantial subframe rust (but NO body rust) , ergonomics not as good as that of hondas - nissans seems to resemble an american car more than most other japanese makes, have to watch the transmissions (both auto and manual trans are prone to failure if not maintained)

The Black Bull — This thing's a tank and it moves when you want it to. Decent gas mileage, quiet, doesn't look ancient 12 years after being built. It is a fun car to drive. Not quite as well thought-out as a Honda but it holds up about as well. The brakes are a constant problem but they can be ignored to an extent while still working alright since the front brakes work alright. The car doesn't rust as easily as most Hondas do. Parts are expensive but last a long time for the most part.
