A Future Classic — I have a '98 SC400 that is in perfect showroom condition, inside and out. Pearl white with all the options. It is a joy to drive and reeks of quality. The design is elegant and timeless. I have a 99 RAV4 for everyday that I also love. I keep the Lexus for longer highway trips and average about 27mpg. I had a 92 SC 400 for ten years in Chicago. Despite traction control and ABS, it would wag its tail on icy roads. I had no mechanical problems with that car and could have kept it longer. I plan to keep my 98 until one of us dies. No tail wagging here in AZ. I don't care for the design of the SC430 and they stopped making the SC400 in 2000. The original window sticker on my car was $62,500, and I could probably get no more than $15,000 now. Hmmm, beautiful 98 Lexus SC400 or new Kia Spectra? No contest. I also believe that one way we can be "green" is not only to buy hybrids, but also to maintain an older car that we use sparingly. It must cost more energy to build a NEW Prius than it ever saves in gas or emissions. Just a thought. If you can find a used SC400 that has been well cared for, buy it and love it. It's a great car.
