1998 Infiniti QX4 4 Dr STD 4WD SUV Review
ProsRugged construction, heavy duty 4X4 system, nice ride, good brakes, nice on road handling, extremely plush interior, excellent build quality. ConsPoor fuel economy for a 3.3L V6.

Great Luxury 4wd! — The QX4 is essentially an upscale version of the pathfinder. In 1996 the first QX4's hit the road. The 'first generation' of the two revisions that made up the QX4 was powered by a 3.3L V6, putting out 168hp. The engine has decent torque, but isn't very fuel efficient. However, this vehicle wasn't built to win any races. It's first and foremost a very capable off road machine. Fully locking hubs at all four corners and a shift-on-the-fly transfer case that allows you to lock into 4-low allow you to tackle the toughest terrain. The 16" aluminum wheels with large tires and decent ground clearance give style and function. The four wheel drive system can also be set to automatic, or regular 2 wheel drive for dry pavement driving. The truck features heavy duty differentials, axles, drive shafts and transfer case that ensures it'll get through just about any rough stuff, and two heavy duty skidplates protect it all. On the utility side, the QX4's rear seats fold down to swallow almost any cargo (three full amp stacks, a drum kit, guitars, mic stands for our band) and an integrated class IV towing hitch will allow you to pull a lot. The truck is rugged, but good looking on the exterior with integrated foglights, revised grille and rear tailgate, and integrated fender flares and running boards. On the inside you're pampered by a 12 speaker bose stereo with CD changer, power windows, locks, keyless entry, power heated driver seat with lumbar support, automatic climate control, power moon roof, and plush leather seats. The interior even features real woodgrain for another nice touch. All around this is an extremely solidly built vehicle straight from Japan, and it's quality shows.

ProsVery comfortable ConsNot great gas mileage

A Wonderful Car To Own — I have loved this car from the day I bought it in 2005. It is an attractive car inside and out. It handles wonderfully and is very comfortable to drive or ride in (drove cross country in it). I have maintained it very well over the years and had anything problems fixed as they came across. There is a strange draft in the front passenger side that was there when I bought it. I had it checked out years ago and cannot remember the cause, but other than being a bit breezy on that side it is not a problem. The maintenance can be a bit pricey as car lines such as Infinity can be. The gas mileage is typical of any older SUV. Mechanics always tell me it is a great car, even for the mileage, and it has a lot left in it. It is a really fun car that has been a pleasure to own. My reason for selling it is simply because I am inheriting a newer car. Otherwise I would have this one until the day it dies. Primary Use: Family transportation | ||

Anyone Want To Buy It? — It's like a parking lot accident magnet, been hit n run twice, and hit with like 5 stray shopping carts... not really flashy for a luxury suv. i wish it had more power. and i wish the back seats had more leg room. Primary Use: Commuting to work |
