1998 Infiniti I30 4 Dr STD Sedan Review
ProsBought the car used, it only needed some body work, damaged rear bumper replaced, cheap! Runs like new! Powerful 3.0 V6, same as Nissan 300ZX! ConsWith Gas Prices as high as they are, it doesn't get great MPG's, but a respectable 25 MPG!

Reliable ,fun To Drive, Comfortable With A Great V6 Powertrain! — With gas prices around $4.00/Gallon, fuel economy is not a great reason to own one. But if you love to drive no one builds a better V6 than Nissan. Same as the 95-99 Maxima! Just more Luxury! Love the BOSE STEREO CD/cassette!

ProsSpacious, Comfy ConsNone!

Great! — Loved it! It drove amazing and would just float on the road. The V6 would always put out the power I needed. Hardly any repairs needed. It was a great car. It was a great ride but could be less boring if it had a manual transmission. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Don't Let Your Car Sit In The Snow All Winter — Ehh. It was a really nice car but the style aged so fast. I bought it actually with only 11K on it (see 99 Jeep why/how I ended up with this car) but was 2 years old I think. It looked like an older 6, 7, 8 year car referring to its styling. So I felt. Not condition, the thing was like it just came out of the showroom. I wanted something else, my sis wanted a new car after she had her 1st kid, perfect. So we thought. Hitch falls off a truck on the LIE hits the Infiniti then bounces and hits like 7 other cars. The SUVs drove away but there was 5 cars on the side of the road with random damage. The infiniti is in the front with a big hole in the floorboard, gas all over the LIE the tank burst, they were lucky the thing didn't blow up. Afterwards I found out even though it was a pretty new car the entire bottom was rusted. I looked a little more into its history, an old couple upstate owned it. Hence the 11k miles on it. So yeah in short basically it probably sat there parked all winter in the snow and rusted out the bottom. Oh yeah the tranny fell out too. Whatever. It did drive really good, fast, nice interior as in design, options, etc. That BOSE system was great. Ehh. Nothing special.

In Its 2nd Decade, Not Tired Of It Yet. — Overall, a very reliable car with regards to the parts that get you down the road and stop you when necessary, although there have been issues.. -- Drivers seat airbag had to be replaced at 60k (just out of warranty). Not cheap. -- Trunk would leak water all over the groceries with the lid raised. Had to replace trunk finisher (panel across the back of the lid with lights). $600. -- Radio gave up the ghost at 90k. Found a rebuild on eBay for $120, slid right in. -- The drivers seat heater switch failed ($20). Never a problem with the motor, transmission, brakes or climate control. Performance and ride are both excellent. My I30t feels like it has more than the listed 190 hp, and the ride and handling are still tight and smooth after 110k. This is the first car I've owned that my mother likes riding in as much as I like driving. Which is quite an accomplishment. They used a fairly low grade of leather on the seats, which in short order turned hard and uncomfortable (as if they had lacquer on them for some reason). On the other hand, after 11 years they haven't ripped yet and still *look* good. The Bose stereo (actually made by Clarion, but the name's everything here) is good. Auto climate control is great. I see 20mpg, mostly city driving (used to get 22 city before they started ruining gas with ethanol).

ProsAppearance, Build Quality Conspoor steering radius

I30t 5-speed — It's gift is it's subtlety, very smooth appearance very easy to maintain. It performs as well as it can with front wheel drive setup. Very cheap to own. A lot of fun speeding! The 5 speed is the better option if you can find one. They are very rare but I've had good luck with mine so far.

ProsBuild quality, comfort options, luxurious spacious interior, great beginner's car ConsStill not quite as fast as other performance autos out there but hey you have class...

The Old Workhorse I30 — The Infiniti I30 is a solidly build 4 door saloon. While a generation or two behind it is more than enough for a beginner who wants power on tap as well as the versatility for uses other than going quite fast. Being a luxury model it feels rather disconnected in terms of steering feedback but also provides comfort to long drives on the road. The cost of owning the I30 is rather minimal due to it's build quality and really only requires regular maintenance. Overall it ranks high in my opinion of a sedan. |
