Pros

Engine has almost 300,000 (not a typo!) miles on it and still going strong!

Cons

Bumper not made to withstand hitting a deer @ 70, lays the corner of the bumper behind the tire and GOUGES the oil filter- some people have blown their engines because of that!

1998 Ford Expedition — Gas mileage- SUCKS I HATE Leather interior!! Awesome to drive, handles great and is awesome in the snow! OIL FILTER is in a REALLY bad place! Thanks FORD Hit a deer in one make sure you hit it on passenger side- or you could take out the oil filter and be left with a blown engine! and the bumper SHOULD be built better! It lays right back behind the tire when you hit a deer, so it takes out your tire when it takes out the engine from the oil filter having a hole in it! Otherwise it is an awesome truck! Almost 300,000 miles and still going strong! Gotta love that FORD engine!

Overall Worth The Money And Proves Why These Things Still Retail At 8-10k — Had this old boy going on 9 years now and i have waited that long to write a review. You dont know a car from a month of driving it. That being said while it does drink a bit of gas this vehicle is wonderful. We have put 267,000 miles on our with no problems.

Love It! — Fun to drive! Lots of power. Take care of it, and it won't let you down! Hard on gas (as a daily driver), but worth it! Perfect for snowy conditions! This one is highly recommended, ...if you can get one! Go for it!!!

Pros

Lots of room in this vehicle

Cons

Expensive repair - frequent repairs

Stay Clear Of This Model Year - And 1997 To 2002 Model Expeditions — This was probably one of the most costly vehicles for me to own. It spent allot of time in the shop being fixed. Transmission work 5 times, radiator, alternator, many sets of brakes, suspension problems every year, starter, had to replaced driver and passenger windows due to clips on glass falling off. I am not a anti-Ford guy but a anti-expedition that I owned guy. Ford is making some great vehicles - I have just found better service out of Toyota trucks lately and better prices. If when I need to replace my current Tundra - I will look again at Ford Trucks.

Pros

Good performance, 4WD is great in snow ride is comfortable, body is still solid and shows no signs of rust.  Quality vehicle!!

Cons

Fuel Economy is tough - 11mpg all around (has towing package and tow axle ratio). When repair is required (just replaced spark plugs, and most recently a plug coil on #5 cylinder), it is a real pain!

Good For Alot Of People, Towing, And Carrying Alot Of Stuff,, — I've had this Expedition since it was new (1997) and it has been a good vehicle although it has been relegated to winter/towing/special uses in favor of a more fuel efficient car. With 103,000 miles on it right now (Jan. 2014), it will remain in my stable of autos, as, when it's cleaned up and polished, still looks like new, and still drives well. In essence, whenever I need 4WD in the future, my Expedition will be there !!

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros

It was great all around.

Cons

It drank a lot of gas.

The Greatness Of The Eddie Bauer Expedition — The only downside was the gas mileage, however if I had invested in the modification chip that would have been better. It was fun to drive, I liked the fact that I was higher than most cars so the only people that could look in the window while driving were semi drivers. I never had to worry about getting stuck due to the fact if I did get stuck all I had to do was turn the dial to which 4wd I was either AWD or 4WD high or low, I loved the simplicity.

Best Suv For A Family Or Any Outdoor Adventures — This SUV has been running strong for over 10 years in my family with minimal problems. With proper maintenance and upkeep, it will keep on running for a long time. This is when they built cars to last. The Eddie Bauer edition includes the leather seats and the more powerful engine which is a huge plus.

Pros

3rd row fits our family fairly well. Towing package is useful at times. Somewhat large interior.

Cons

Poor gas mileage. Hard to maneuver at times since it's a full size SUV.

Decent Full Size Suv With Poor Gas Mileage — This full size SUV has been decent for our family for the past six months. However, it has poor gas mileage with the 5.4L V8 engine and it's hard to maneuver in tight spaces and parking lots sometimes due to it's size. Overall it has been a nice vehicle although it has poor gas mileage.

Pros

Roomy, seats as comfy as my home sofa, excellent for comfort on long trips, awesomely powerful engine, yet quiet running.  This bird flies effortlessly!  By driving smoothly in city and on highway, I get 14.5 mpg consistently, sometimes 15 mpg which is not bad for such a powerhouse engine.  166K miles on it now and still going strong.  2 bucket seats, 1 full bench seat seats 3 large adults comfortably, 3rd bench seat seats 3 children or young adults or 2 large adults.   Leather interior looks great, easy to keep clean.   Front and rear A/C, excellent sound system including 6 CD changer and cassette player, front and rear controls, front and back extra power jacks for plugging in accessories.

Cons

14.5 mpg - with current gas prices it is a little pricey to fill up the huge tank.  Quiet, powerful and smooth acceleration so it's very easy to exceed the speed limit without realizing it!

Superior Comfort And Power. I Love This Vehicle! — We love this vehicle, and feel totally spoiled by its comfort, particularly on long trips. Reaches highway speed effortlessly and quietly. We have never needed a major repair, and it is at 166K; mechanic says the Triton engine is one of the best models ever made and it should go much, much farther without needing anything but routine maintenance. By driving it smoothly I routinely get 14.5 mpg in the city, 14.5 to 15 highway, even when driving 70-75 mpg. Superior in so many ways we are afraid to ever sell it, for fear we won't find another vehicle built so well! Absolutely recommend this vehicle for dependability, power and comfort.
