Reliable Car To Zip Around Town — I used to own a 2003 Stratus, now I own a 1998 Stratus. My 03 had a v6 and my 98 has a 4 cylinder. The 1998 gets better gas mileage, it's still comfortable up front and back...there's plenty of foot room in the back seat, which is nice. The driver's side has an adjustment on the seat where it can make the chair go up or down which I thought was nice. The controls on the panel on the stereo & the AC are easy to see and easy to control. The cup holders on both the 03 and the 98 are the same. They suck. You can only fit like a soda can in them. The paint chips and fades. Also, I've never experienced this with my 03, but only with my 98...the ignition fuse is faulty. This is a widespread problem among Stratuses. My tranny on my 98 would have to be "special ordered"...pricey fix. Stratus is a nice car...it's fast, it zips me around curves easily, gets really good gas mileage, my tank is still sitting just below full tank after running errands around town and driving 10 miles coming home.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Just A Dd Driver Till I Can Afford An ///m Car — [Performance] -140 bhp @ 5200 -160 lb-ft @ 4000 [Build Quality] -Its pretty rigid which gives it the ability to tackle tight corners [Appearance] -Not the best but it really doesn't affect the speed. [Fun Factor] -For a 4 door car with a 4-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission, its pretty darn fun. lol [Modifications] -Stock....not for long

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

2.4l Fun Little 4-cylinder — The car looks great and feels good to sit in, but the 150hp engine takes away from its appeal. The overall design of the car flows beautifully, but the raised rear deck takes away some of the rear view. 115,000+ miles and she's still going strong :-)

Pros

extremely good looks, cold-ice a/c, variety of standard equipment, space in the trunk, enormous back seat, quietness in the cabin, superior audio system, powerful I-4, but most important, MADE IN AMERICA.

Cons

gas guzzler, repairs are hard, visibility in the rear, no standard CD player, no manual transmission

Amazing — Welcome to the Stratus!! Designed by Chrysler, this car features the cab forward design based in the 1987 Lamborghini Portofino, a 4-door sedan. This car, along with its bigger cousins like the dodge Intrepid, Chrsyler Concorde, Chrysler LHS, Chrysler Cirrus, Plymouth Breeze, were very succesful in the market, yet they encountered some problems. For example, the 2.4L engine suffered premature head gasket failure and many other reliability problems that hindered the sales of the vehicle. In addition, any simple repair seems to be a nightmare due to the lack of space and placement of basic parts, like the battery. However, Chrsyler impressed the public with this car as it has a cavernous trunk and a spacious back seat. Acceleration seems to be good, but could be improved with a bigger and more powerful V6 and th ability to have a manual transmission. Car has standard arbags, a/c, power windows/mirrors/locks and it's a car that would last for years
