ProsNice styling inside and outside. Good performance and reliability. ConsUnder powered at times

1997 Gmc Sonoma 2.2l 5speed Manual — I had the 2.2L mated to a 5 speed manual. The motor was fuel efficient and the manual transmission was fun and allowed for greater control to apply the high rpms of the motor to the wheels when i needed it, especially during hauling or on uphills. The low rpms were best for cruising and attained maximum fuel efficiency. The motor did seem underpowered sometimes. Weight distribution was light in the rear and heavy up front, like most trucks. Great for lighting up the rubber in first and second gear. The truck handled like a monorail on air cushions through the windy mountain highways.

ProsDecent on gas (23mpg), pretty quick, handles nicely, roomy interior. Nice big engine, lots of cheap upgrades available. ConsDoor panels rattle a lot, can get annoying... starting to show its age, sadly... dents and nicks here and there, lots of miles on it, etc. Could use a better automatic transmission too!

Great Sport Truck! — I got this car high school graduation, I've been driving it around ever since. Has 181,000 miles on it, and its still running strong! Lots of power, it can squeal tires very easily. I've put new exhaust and intake on it, as well as lowered it 3" and added a tonneau cover and blue stripes. Great little truck, pretty clean for being 11 years old.

Great — i love how my truck is one of a kind it has one of kind rims and you will never see a truck just like mine i love how good of gas milage it gets and the size of the motor is perfect for the truck a 4.3 v6 is a good motor for a small 1500 ibs truck you get great power and reliability i dont like that it doesnt come with an rpm guage... i have a manual transmition and most would think it owuld have a tachometer but i gues gm didnt have the same thoughts at the time Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Prosgas milage is pretty good ConsTransmission sucks

Transmission Blows — Well my 2.2 sonoma's transmission went out at 70,000 miles which is really weak if you ask me and i take care of my truck. I don't mean it was just slipping or anything. I lost overdrive and reverse on the interstate. That's just shameful if you ask me.
